We’ve been beating the summer heat while enjoying a relaxing team activity. The Wellness Committe hosted the “Calm, Cool and Coloring Challenge”. GIANT coloring posters by artist DebbieLynn have been spreading cheer throughout our Network. Posters have been available to staff at all of our locations, in departments and common areas. Last week, photos of the completed posters were submitted for judging. We will be sure to share the finished projects. If you are looking for something to do on these hot summer days, grab a coloring book, create some free time and enjoy the mental mindset this activity creates. #northeastrehabilitationhospital #NortheastRehab

May is #StrokeAwarenessMonth and we are joining healthcare organizations and non-profits in a unified effort to make sure everyone knows the signs and symptoms of a stroke. According to the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association -- New Hampshire, stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and the leading cause of disability in the United States. Minutes matter and can save lives. How do you know the signs? Remember the BE FAST acronym. #northeastrehab #northeastrehabilitationhospitalnetwork

Our nurses are filling buckets and creating connections during hydration rounds at #NortheastRehabilitationHospitalNetwork located inside The Elliot. Meaghan Parnell, a full-time LNA, has started a new trend! During her shift Meaghan creates a motivational quote that she writes on each patient's cup, along with the date. The quotes are motivating and inspiring the patients. “The creative cups are very well received. They brighten the patients’ days and also the staffs,” said Devin Lucy, Nurse Manager for NRHN at The Elliot. Bridget Poole, PD, LNA (left) is pictured with Meaghan Parnell (right). Bridget is also helping to continue this practice during her shifts. She left the network for a short while but came back to NRH because of the teamwork, the culture and the patients! “This place is like no other, feels like a family!” We’re glad to have you back Bridget and grateful for your creative enthusiasm Meaghan. Staying hydrated is important for EVERYONE! Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School (NDCRHS) recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Corporate Work Study Program. The CWSP was established to offer students the opportunity to earn a portion of their tuition while providing them valuable exposure to career avenues. At the event, Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network’s founders Dr. Howard Gardner and his wife Naomi were honored as long-standing supporters of the school and this program. Their daughters, Alexandra, Juliane and Stephanie (pictured from left to right) accepted the award on their behalf. “We are honored to continue this 20-year relationship,” said Charles Champagne, CEO at NRHN. “Over the years, we’ve worked with two students each year. This year we’ve had four students working with us.” NDCRHS first opened in Lawrence and is now located in Methuen. #notredamcristoreyhighschool #northeastrehabilitationhospitalnetwork

Our innovative therapists are creatively using technology to find the most appropriate ways to challenge and motivate patients. We integrate Bioness, a Bioventus Rehab Company, BITS into custom therapy at all four of our inpatient acute rehabilitation hospitals. This technology can help the individuals we care for improve their hand-eye coordination, reaction time, postural control, balance and working memory. There is nothing better than sharing a moment of joy with our patients' when they accomplish a goal. #bioness #rehabtherapy #rehab #northeastrehabilitationhospitalnetwork #therapycareers #healthcarecareers #wearehiring

Uplifting Music, Uplifting Moments: Every year Doug's family does a secret Santa exchange and this year Doug drew his daughter-in-law’s name. “I had purchased this wonderful speaker but when she added Taylor Swift’s 1989 album to her Christmas wish list, I knew immediately that I had to get that for her.” Doug’s choice was fantastic and she loved the gift. He continued to spread the joy of music with his next act of kindness. Doug, a former patient on U200 at our Salem hospital, reached out to ask if he could give us the speaker. We were happy to be able to accept and see Doug again. “When I was at Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network my therapists would often play music during my sessions in the gyms and I really liked it,” shared Doug. “My hope is that this speaker helps spread the same joy I experienced during my rehabilitation. The music and the team are really uplifting.” Thank you, Doug!!! This gift will truly continue to make a difference. Thanks for letting us be part of your song :) Read more about Doug's journey in his touching tribute: The Ultimate Lesson in Kindness at https://lnkd.in/eND3EtS9 #northeastrehabilitationhospitalnetwork #NortheastRehabilitationHospitalNetwork #NRHN #choosenortheastrehab

We are pleased to introduce you to Laurie, an OT, CHT at our Outpatient Therapy Clinic located in the Pentucket Medical Building (Haverhill, MA). Laurie has a unique background as an OT, pilates studio owner and instructor. Now as a newly Certified Hand Therapist, a distinction that is held by only 54% of the CHT’s nationwide, she is providing a very calming, wholistic experience for her hand therapy patients. “Each patient has their own ‘set of things’ that bring them to rehab,” said Laurie. “It’s like a puzzle piece, figuring out what they need and what I can do to help them get back on their own healing path. It never gets boring. I’m constantly learning and grateful to be on such a fulfilling, lifelong learning curve.” Her journey to becoming a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is inspiring. Laurie began her career as an OT and after running her own pilates studio for 12 years she decided to return to OT. In 2018 she started working as an OT with Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network's outpatient therapy team. Laurie’s manager encouraged her to consider becoming a hand therapist and supported her in this career growth opportunity. To accomplish this, Laurie completed a certificate program in Upper Extremity Rehabilitation at Tufts University, performed an independent study and was mentored by other clinicians. After obtaining all of the requirements, including 3 years as a clinician and 4000 hours of upper extremity direct patient care, Laurie passed the certification exam this past November. Congratulations, Laurie. We are so proud of your accomplishments and success. NRHN and your patients are lucky to have such a dedicated therapist. “It’s wonderful to be part of NRHN. I appreciate the team-oriented culture. Everyone is very supportive. If you need help or have a question, there is always someone there and willing. I’m proud to work with colleagues that I respect and for an organization that I respect. I would send my family here. We provide exceptional quality care.” #northeastrehabilitationhospitalnetwork #northeastrehab #certifiedhandtherapist #TherapyCareers #HealthcareCareers #choosenortheastrehab #wearehiring
