Representing providers from across the United States, NPHI and its members help design more innovative and effective models of care, advocate for comprehensive and community-integrated care customized to meet each person’s unique needs, and build collaboration between national thought leaders, decision-makers, and other healthcare stakeholders to improve hospice care. Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting the amazing team at Christwood in Covington, LA! We had some great conversations about topics close to my heart, including the importance of recognizing and addressing elder abuse. I shared one of the latest guides from NPHI - National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation; Breaking the Silence, a valuable resource with best practices on how to address domestic violence, elder abuse and neglect. A big thank you to the team for being willing and open to talk about these issues! When I think about the compassionate caregivers who support our older adults, I’m reminded of how uniquely equipped they are to recognize signs of abuse. These devoted professionals not only provide essential care but also serve as advocates, actively safeguarding those who may be vulnerable. Their role in identifying and addressing trauma extends beyond physical care—they offer reassurance, connection, and hope to individuals who need it most. Also a big thanks to Amy Donald for the invite! Fun fact: her daughter went to high school with my bonus daughter, Delaney. Catch this touching story showcasing the depth of hospice care! CBS News New York recently visited a 95-year-old Holocaust survivor, a patient of our member, MJHS, along with music therapist Yuzuko Degrottole. The segment highlights how music therapy strengthens connections, revives memories, and helps heal past trauma. What a testament to the effectiveness of music therapy and trauma-informed care! Yuzuko even learned Yiddish and Hebrew songs to make the experience truly special.
