It's been 3 weeks since Congestion Relief Zone tolling went into effect, and the program is working! We're seeing traffic move quicker into and within Manhattan, which benefits all New Yorkers—drivers, bus riders, emergency vehicle operators, pedestrians, and more. On the NYS Open Data portal, we’ve started releasing the most detailed view of traffic collected (so far) in NYC. This allows anyone to explore and see how this program is reshaping our shared streets. In our latest Data & Analytics blog post, our teams explain where this data comes from, how it can be analyzed, and more: https://lnkd.in/ew_eZhmB

About us
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is North America's largest transportation network, serving a population of 15.3 million people in the 5,000-square-mile area fanning out from New York City through Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut. The MTA comprises six agencies: MTA New York City Transit, MTA Bus Company, MTA Long Island Rail Road, MTA Metro-North Railroad, MTA Bridges and Tunnels, and MTA Construction & Development. The MTA network has the nation’s largest bus fleet and more subway and commuter rail cars than all other U.S. transit systems combined. It provides around 2.6 billion trips each year, accounting for about one-third of the nation’s mass transit users and two-thirds of its commuter rail passengers. MTA Bridges and Tunnels, which recorded a record 329 million crossings in 2019, carries more vehicles than any other bridge and tunnel authority in the nation. We teamed up with UBS Arena and the New York Islanders to celebrate the one millionth ride to UBS Arena! 🎉 Steve and Michael, a father-son duo, were the lucky winners after taking the LIRR from Grand Central. They were greeted at Elmont – UBS Arena station by LIRR President Rob Free, former Islanders star Butch Goring, and others, who presented them with a special souvenir ticket. Whether you're heading to a game or a big event, this milestone proves that the LIRR is the most convenient option for getting to and from UBS Arena.

Last week, we announced the completion of two new elevators at Woodhaven Blvd (J/Z), making the station fully accessible! In addition to the new elevators and staircases, crews performed extensive state of good repair work, upgraded platforms, and installed numerous safety enhancements. Many thanks to Senator Chuck Schumer, Representative Hakeem Jeffries, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand for their support securing federal funding for this project!

Two years ago today, we started full service at Grand Central Madison, providing a vital LIRR link to the east side of Manhattan and Metro-North Railroad. But let's look back even further, to 2013, during construction of what is now one of the platforms in our east side terminal. Here's the before and after. #ThrowbackThursday
