Lettuce celebrate because the 2024 Plant Based Food Festival was a hit! 🥬 🍽️🥑👩🍳 We kicked off the festival with Neeti Jain, Strategic Partnerships Advisor for the NYC Mayor’s Office of Food Policy, who gave opening remarks and spoke about the importance of reducing carbon emissions from food. NYU’s very own Arianna Cooper, Director of Sustainability for Chartwells at NYU, gave great cooking tips for dorm-friendly plant-based food recipes. The NYU community was able to enjoy delicious samples from many different vegan and plant-based brands and local restaurants: Ambo Bored Cow Chakra Fabalish Fable Food Co Imposter Food Jensen Plant Based Division Land Lovers Le Botaniste Local Roots Oatly Mezcla Nature's Fynd Never Better Foods NUMU Vegan Cheese NYU Eats Stockeld Dreamery STRONG ROOTS A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by and explored the wonders of plant-based eating!

Last week, NYU announced it joined the Plant-Powered Carbon Challenge, pledging to reduce food-based emissions by 25% by 2030! The NYC Mayor’s Office of Food Policy launched the Plant-Powered Carbon Challenge to engage private sector institutions in the effort to fight climate change through more sustainable food systems. The action plan at NYU will focus on developing more plant-based options in dining halls, collaborating with events and catering to create plant-forward menus, and working with vendors to source more sustainable foods. NYU is a leading climate actor with a goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. Not only does this commitment align with our Coolfood Pledge, which similarly focuses on reducing food-based greenhouse gas emissions across all of NYU’s campuses by 25% by 2030, but it also fits alongside other initiatives like the Passive House retrofit of Rubin Hall, our annual Green Apple Move Out initiative, and our transportation-related programs and policies.

You know we'd never miss an event with free food 😋 Spotted on Campus: NYU Office of Sustainabilitycollaborated with student groups Greener by Default Coalition and the Animal Rights Collective to put on a festival filled with plant-based food vendors, recipe demonstrations, and live music from student performers. The event was part of NYC's Climate Week and also served to announce NYU's participation in NYC's Plant-Powered Carbon Challenge, an initiative supported by the city's Office of Food Policy. The university has pledged to make a 25% reduction to its food-related carbon footprint by 2030 🥗 🌎
