OBJECT TERRITORIES recently participated in two public engagement events on Governors Island to share our work on returning habitat to our urban shorelines. Visitors learned about plans to install ecological armoring units and sea wall panels near Yankee Pier and were encouraged to model their own ideas for intertidal objects. Today is #WorldWaterDay, an annual United Nations observance day that highlights the importance of freshwater. From Billion Oyster Project's work restoring oyster reefs to New York Harbor to the maritime and scientific leaders of the future at the New York Harbor School, Governors Island community of year-round tenants and partners are at the forefront of the work for a brighter, more sustainable future. ICYMI, we have six cutting-edge climate pilots set to join this community as part of the Trust for Governors Island’s Climate Solutions Challenge, presented through the Living Lab initiative. Meet them below and at https://lnkd.in/ekpiukJq, and get ready to witness climate solutions in action on Governors Island this summer: 💧 Duro UAS will pilot their Nearshore Sonde, a portable water mon­i­tor­ing device and cloud-based data dashboard. 💧 Just Ecoc­i­ties will part­ner with Biohabitats to pilot a Tidal Planter that cre­ates salt marsh while remov­ing pol­lu­tants from New York Harbor. 💧 LÆRO will pilot Cycleau, their com­pact grey­wa­ter treat­ment sys­tem, at the Island’s water refill sta­tions and restrooms.  💧 OBJECT TERRITORIES will pilot their Inter­tidal Objects in the waters off Governors Island–habi­tat-friend­ly coastal pro­tec­tion units designed in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Cen­ter for Archi­tec­ture, Sci­ence, and Ecol­o­gy (CASE) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, The Fort Miller Group, Inc., and afterNATURE. 💧 RETI Center and thread collective will pilot their Float­ing Blue­Blocks Gar­dens, inte­grat­ed eco­log­i­cal sys­tems that can be installed in any body of water. 💧 Seaweed City will pilot their urban kelp farm­ing infra­struc­ture. The project is fis­cal­ly spon­sored by Newtown Creek Alliance. The Liv­ing Lab is made pos­si­ble with the gen­er­ous sup­port of Amazon, Con Edison, Don­ald A. Pels Char­i­ta­ble Trust, New York Community Trust, Deutsche Bank, and LISC NY.

San Francisco is known for its colorful residential architecture, which can be found throughout different neighborhoods in the city. From the pastel-colored Victorians houses of Haight-Ashbury to the vibrant facades of the Mission District, the spectrum of colorful architecture adds to the city’s unique charm and character. Here, the concrete frame is tinted in a shade of red in order to contribute to this colorful tradition. A contemporary interpretation of the bay window further adds additional square footage to the apartments and brings in additional light to the interior. Rather than one large building occupying the corner lot, we propose two smaller buildings, brought together by shared common facilities and semi-outdoor spaces in the form of terraces linked by circulation.
