We're excited to announce that today Power Forward Communities has been officially awarded a $2 billion, seven-year National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF) grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Starting in early 2025, these funds will enable the affordable decarbonization of homes and apartments nationwide, with a special focus on supporting under-resourced communities. Last week, we were delighted to host the final presentations of the LISC AmeriCorps Cashin Fellows and mark the end of another successful year of the program! Launched in 2007 thanks to the generous contribution of LISC Board Member Lisa Cashin, this initiative offers New York City students from Prep for Prep immersive, full-time, 8-week paid summer internships with LISC NY and our community partners. Through these internships, participants gain valuable hands-on experience and see firsthand the positive effects of community development work in the neighborhoods we serve. This week, the Fifth Avenue Committee hosted the LISC NY Cashin Fellows/LISC AmeriCorps members for an insightful neighborhood tour. During the visit, the Fellows explored the Gowanus area of Brooklyn, gaining valuable insights into its Waterfront Access plan, as well as ongoing initiatives to develop affordable housing and mixed-use buildings. They also learned about the historical and current impacts of redlining in New York City.
