🦪GIVING BACK WITH THE BILLION OYSTER PROJECT 🦪 Last week, our Community Manager, Anna Yum joined the local NYC Equinor team for a fun-filled volunteer day with the Billion Oyster Project on Governors Island! 🚤 We hopped on the ferry and jumped right into action, getting hands-on with the marine ecosystem and discovering how even the smallest actions can create big waves of change on climate resilience. Key Learnings From These Natural Superheroes: 🌊 Oyster reefs are natural surge storm barriers, protecting our shorelines by preventing erosion and reducing flooding. 🌱Just one adult oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water a day, purifying it's surroundings and providing vibrant habitats for hundreds of marines species in NYC’s waterways. 🌟 2024 State of the Science Workshop on Offshore Wind Energy, Wildlife, and Fisheries Recap! 🌟 🌍 We enjoyed attending the 2024 State of the Science Workshop on Offshore Wind Energy, Wildlife, and Fisheries on Long Island, New York, from July 16th to 19th, 2024, through our own Julia R. G. Dombroski, PhD. Hosted by NYSERDA on behalf of the Environmental Technical Working Group (E-TWG), the event focused on “Taking an Ecosystem Approach: Integrating Offshore Wind, Wildlife, and Fisheries.” 🌿 Julia R. G. Dombroski, PhD, spoke on behalf of the National Offshore Wind Research & Development Consortium on a panel entitled “Building Sustainable OSW Future Through Collaborative Research Programs”.  Here are some key takeaways from Julia: 🔬 Collaborative programs are highly regarded by the industry and necessary for advancing research, particularly in environmental impacts and the co-use of ocean resources. These programs foster cooperation and shared goals, leading to more significant and impactful outcomes. 🤝 One of the significant benefits of collaborative efforts is the ability to maintain integration and avoid duplicative efforts. By working together, different organizations and stakeholders can streamline their activities, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and effectively. 🙋 Collaborative programs can unite diverse ocean users and stakeholders, fostering a more inclusive approach to ocean resource management. This inclusivity can lead to innovative solutions and practices that benefit the entire industry. These efforts also address community concerns by including local voices in the decision-making process, which helps to ensure that the needs and perspectives of those most affected are considered. ✈️ Collaborative programs promote cross-border collaboration, which is essential in the global context of ocean resource management.
