With the rise of GLP-1s and other modern advances, discourse around obesity is changing rapidly. But why do we still rely primarily on a 200-year-old math hack for obesity screening? Body Mass Index (BMI) is an imperfect obesity screening tool that should be carefully examined and re-contextualized. In our latest white paper, we explore BMI’s past, present and future amid a changing obesity management landscape. The piece also includes valuable insights from Fatima Cody Stanford, a leading obesity medicine specialist and the equity director of the endocrine division at Massachusetts General Hospital. As virtual healthcare evolves, it's essential to measure its value beyond just cost savings. The American Medical Association's Return on Health framework enables us to holistically evaluate virtual care! At Omada, we are committed to high-quality, evidence-based care that prioritizes: ⭐ Clinical Outcomes, Quality, and Safety 🔍 Access to Care 👍 Patient Satisfaction 👩⚕️ Care Team Experience 💰 Economic Impact By integrating an equity lens into our care, we can help extend virtual care to all populations. Omada Health reposted this
At this week’s HLTH Inc. conference, I spoke on a panel about the challenges of measuring value in virtual care. My biggest takeaway? Let’s stop reinventing the wheel. Digital Health and Virtual Care should absolutely be evaluated and held accountable for quality & safety. Which is why Omada Health looks to existing authorities to help us understand if our programs measure up - like NCQA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and URAC in addition to publishing peer-reviewed studies and trials for breakthrough innovation. The American Medical Association's "Return on Health Framework" provides a terrific structure for evaluating healthcare within existing frameworks vs. re-inventing the wheel, a strategy that contributes to more silos. Our team recently got to work on an extensive report detailing Omada Health's value on investment (VOI) through this framework. Today, Sarah Linke and I are publishing a summary of our VOI report in this month’s Proof Points, and if you’re interested in diving deeper, the full report is linked within. Thanks for reading! Hats off to a great week at HLTH USA! Our team was busy with a number of activities, including: ⭐ Our Chief Medical Officer Carolyn Bradner Jasik, MD spoke on a panel about measuring value of digital health ⭐ Hosting a happy hour where Sean Duffy shared a toast to “healthy innovation” ⭐ Those who stopped by our booth enjoyed an Omada Cares activity making almost 50 cards for terminally ill children that will be sent to Cards for Hospitalized Kids ⭐ Many people were in awe of our local artist, Schin Loong, who customized luggage tags on site! ⭐ Finally, we hosted a breakfast for clinical executives, discussing the value of virtual care featuring a member of our Board of Directors Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA We’re so glad we had the opportunity to connect with those in the industry, and we look forward to reflecting on all that we learned in a whirlwind of a week at #HLTH!

Loss of lean muscle mass appears to be a commonly discussed side effect of GLP-1s. In the time of increased GLP-1 use, many providers should consider how to prevent this side effect. In a recent edition of Proof Points, Anna DeLaRosby, PT, DPT, OCS, Cert. MDT explores the top reasons why GLP-1 care should include sustainable exercise plans that focus on the entire MSK system, not just muscle mass. Read her piece now:
3 Reasons GLP-1 Care Must Consider the Entire MSK System, Not Just Muscle Mass

Exciting developments in AI could improve the management of chronic conditions like hypertension. Our Chief Privacy and Regulatory Officer Lucia Savage delved into this during a recent workshop with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The key takeaway? AI and machine learning tools have the potential to enhance diagnosis accuracy, predict hypertension risks, and personalize treatment plans, paving the way for better individual and population health outcomes. Collaboration across fields and tackling data management challenges are vital for these technologies to succeed. We're thrilled our leadership is at the forefront of this journey in healthcare.
