Great article from WorkLife featuring Kathleen M. Pike, CEO of One Mind about the importance of training managers on how to better support the mental health of their team. “The difference between advice and giving reassurance and information, is that information is evidence-based and tried and true and from reliable sources, right? And we teach people how to navigate these spaces, not being clinical professionals, learning what’s the appropriate next step to take and to know what is within the scope of their expertise,” Tramaine EL-Amin, VP of Mental Health First Aid at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing said. #MentalHealthMatters #WorkplaceMentalHealth https://lnkd.in/g5rRCZ3R

As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month, it's crucial to recognize the unique challenges faced by HR professionals. During a recent team discussion, we reflected on the irony that Mental Health Awareness Month can sometimes add extra stress for HR professionals. While the goal is to promote mental well-being across the organization, the additional responsibilities can be overwhelming. One Mind at Work and the SHRM Foundation have collaborated to create a special resource just for HR professionals - "Mental Health Starts with HR: 10 strategies for Protecting and Improving Your Own Mental Health". Click here to access the report: https://lnkd.in/gZnn2bSJ To all the HR professionals, remember that your well-being is just as important as the employees you support. It's okay to ask for help and take time for yourself. Let’s use this month not only to raise awareness but also to support each other. Kathleen M. Pike, Tahilia J. According to a recent Deloitte report, half of women surveyed said their stress levels have increased from last year, and nearly half were "concerned" or "very concerned" about their mental health. One Mind at Work's Vice President for Member Engagement, Christina McCarthy, notes "we think about stress that comes with family planning, the stress that comes with menopause, of navigating these conversations, and organizations that haven't properly socialized the discussion - all this create real stress for women in the workforce." To support female workers, consider the following: 1. Empower managers to be flexible and think creatively about how to support their women team members 2. Leverage Employee Resource Groups 3. Include men https://lnkd.in/eQk-8RUt

These are the ideas changing the world in 2024. For Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards this year, we saw hundreds of projects tackling climate change, from Boston Metal's efforts to green the steel industry to the first fully recycled concrete building in the world from Holcim. We have honorees working to make things like credit scores (Esusu) and public restrooms (Momentum Refresh) equitable. There are projects that created a support system for veterans (ReflexAI), and a certification to support student-parents in college (Generation Hope). Yes, the world can seem bleak at times. But read through the 50 winners and hundreds of honorees, and you’ll be inspired by the ideas and people that make the world more accessible, equitable, and sustainable for everyone.
