We are One Texas, united in building resilient and thriving communities.

About us

For nearly half a century, the State of Texas has recognized the critical importance of civic engagement in building resilient and thriving communities. When OneStar was established to carry on this legacy, the Governor described Texans as “a dedicated and selfless people who have a long and proud history of responding when their neighbors need help” and cited the power of volunteer action to “transform our communities, our families and the lives of individual Texans, and enrich the life of the volunteer.” OneStar harnesses this extraordinary Texan spirit of service by creating pathways for individuals and organizations to engage, connect and accelerate impact for our state. Through our diverse initiatives, we equip Texans to develop and advance innovative solutions to our state’s most pressing challenges. Born from state government, we carry out our mission for Texas with direction and guidance from the Office of the Governor. We are recognized as a statewide voice for the nonprofit sector and a respected partner to foundations, state agencies, and the business community. Together, we are One Texas, united in building resilient and thriving communities.

Our Interagency Coordinating Group brings together Texas state agencies to explore opportunities for strengthening partnerships between government and nonprofits. Special thanks to this week's guest presenter Betsy Cox of Texas Department of State Health Services for sharing ways the agency makes grant opportunities more accessible and provides training and resources in grantwriting through their revamped Grant Development Center. This online portal makes it easier for Texas nonprofits to access valuable health-related funding for their communities. Learn more and search for funding opportunities ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gcxkjEps

A huge thank you to the 55,000 AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers headed #BacktoSchoolwithAmeriCorps. From improving literacy skills and graduation rates to fostering social-emotional skills and supporting mental health, AmeriCorps is helping students thrive in and out of school across the country. AmeriCorps members create positive and supportive learning environments by: 🏫 Mentoring and tutoring students 🏫 Leading summer learning & afterschool programs 🏫 Reducing chronic absenteeism 🏫 Improving student well-being and mental health 🏫 Preparing for careers in education AmeriCorps is a vital investment, and we need to urge Congress to increase support for #AmeriCorpsinSchools. Help shine a spotlight on youth mental health and the power of AmeriCorps at 2025 SXSW EDU! VOTE 🗳️➡️ https://lnkd.in/gNnm94YV As part of the Youth Mental Health Corps (YMHC), a multi-sector, national initiative designed to address the youth mental health crisis and public health workforce shortage, we have proposed a panel exploring how young adults, state, and local leaders in Central Texas are using the YMHC to create sustainable solutions to meet youth mental health needs. YMHC empowers young adults as near-peer navigators in schools and communities while giving them on-ramps into the behavioral health field. Ensure this conversation happens at next year’s SXSW EDU by up-voting the session. To vote, click on our PanelPicker link, create or sign in to your account, and cast your vote by selecting the up arrow. The last day to vote is this Sunday, August 18.
