Created in 1887, Osceola County is a 1,506 square mile area that serves as the south/central boundary of the Central Florida greater metropolitan area. The city of Kissimmee, the county seat, is 18 miles due south of Orlando. Osceola's other incorporated city, St. Cloud, is 9 miles east of Kissimmee and approximately 45 miles west of the city of Melbourne on the Atlantic coast.

  • Over the weekend, Osceola County Emergency Management Officer Danielle Balser (pictured, center) deployed to Pinellas County as part of a support team from Central Florida to help the cities of St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, and Pass-A-Grille Beach recover from #HurricaneHelene. Danielle and her teammates from City of Altamonte Springs, St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners Emergency Management, and Orange County Fire Rescue Svc will spend the next two weeks helping set up Points of Distribution in those communities to help people with needs like laundry, showers, restrooms, shelf-stable meals, fresh water, and tarps.

  • The Kissimmee Elks Lodge #1873 honored Officer Candelario with the Corrections Professional of the Year Award during their annual Public Safety Night. His diligent efforts in locating contraband inside the Osceola County Jail not only led to the discovery of smuggled drugs but also helped gather information that led to uncovering additional contraband.   • This week marks a significant milestone—the first anniversary of the Urban & Community Forestry Inflation Reduction Act Grants! We're excited to use this funding to train new urban forestry professionals and kick off impactful projects. Meet Osceola County’s Office of Sustainability! They’re currently leading the Urban Heat Island Study, which focuses on identifying heat-prone areas in historically disadvantaged communities that lack sufficient tree cover. This crucial data will guide us in planting 3,000 new trees, funded by the IRA Urban Forestry Program grant, that will help improve environmental health and quality of life for residents.

    The Osceola County Board of County Commissioners has officially proclaimed September 2024 as Hunger Action Month in #OsceolaCounty. This proclamation, presented by Commissioner Brandon Arrington (D3) to Stephanie Palacios of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. The proclamation underscores our commitment to addressing hunger and food insecurity in our community. With 13.2% of Floridians facing hunger, it's important to raise awareness and take action. We're proud to support Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and their hard work in providing meals to those in need. Last year alone, they distributed over 7.8 million meals right here in Osceola County. Join us this September in making a difference. Whether through volunteering, sharing information on social media, or making a donation, every effort counts in the fight to end hunger.

    With the assistance of Congressman Darren Soto, the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners has secured $850,000 in federal funding for essential infrastructure improvements in our community! These funds will go towards the Marigold Avenue Safety Improvement Project, enhancing four key intersections with new single-lane roundabouts and a northbound left-turn lane to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety. Additionally, the Whitted neighborhood will receive an upgrade to its water system, transitioning 52 residents from contaminated wells to a modern potable water system.
