We are excited to share that we are the first hospital on the Eastside to offer the most advanced biopsy system for detecting lung cancer, the MONARCH™ Platform from Johnson & Johnson MedTech! This robotically-assisted bronchoscopy system enhances a physician’s ability to reach, evaluate, and biopsy lung lesions and nodules, even in lung cancer’s earliest stages. Early detection drastically increases patient survivability. The MONARCH™ bronchoscope offers continuous vision throughout the procedure, precisely guiding a biopsy instrument into difficult-to-reach nodules. “Having access to technology that allows us to navigate to small lesions, as well as locate and biopsy them effectively, is the benefit of this system,” says Todd Freudenberger, MD, Overlake pulmonologist. The Facts: 🔹 Every 2.5 minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with lung cancer. 🔹 Lung cancer claims the lives of 356 people every day. 🔹 The five-year relative survival rate is 61% in Stage 1 but drops to 7% in later stages. 🔹 Over 70% of U.S. lung cancer patients are diagnosed in stages III-IV. 🔹 Lung nodules are typically symptomless, but if associated with cancer, symptoms like cough, bloody mucus, and weight loss often indicate advanced disease.
