Empowering veterans and active military with new tools in the War on Suicide
About us
The Overwatch Project is coming at veteran suicide prevention from a new direction, using an approach that was successfully utilized to help solve another complex problem: drunk driving. We're building the equivalent of the “Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk” campaign for veterans, only instead of talking about alcohol and vehicles, we’re talking about firearms and suicide. We empower veterans with new skills and tools to save lives through suicide prevention trainings, conversation guides, and innovative online outreach that equip veterans to intervene when a friend is struggling – before it’s too late. We also help build suicide prevention capacity in non-profit networks, military family organizations, and others who serve the veteran community.

We're grateful to be a part of this amazing event, and for USAA's support in our fight to end military and veteran suicide!
🎳 It’s that time of the year again where we host an annual Bowlathon for USAA employees, friends and family in Charlotte, Chesapeake, Colorado Springs, Dallas, Phoenix, San Antonio and Tampa with a few remote teams gathering on their own for the fun!!! This year, all proceeds go to organizations on the frontlines of preventing veteran suicide through Face The Fight. Thus far, we have raised an estimated $543,000+ for Onward Ops, Overwatch Project | FORGE and K9s For Warriors 🙌🏾🙌🏾!!!!!! Thank you to our CEO Wayne Peacock and Executive Sponsor Tom Troy for their support in helping us rally over 4,200 people to form 850 teams 🎉! Other Executive Council members Randy Termeer, Tami Cabaniss, and Bob Johnson showed out BIG with their teams in San Antonio. I’m so grateful for the small, but mighty team Jeanah Guerra, James Bragg, and @hannahnix for making this year an AMAZING experience for all! But it takes a village with marketing/comms support, dozens of coordinators in each business, volunteers for event staffing and leads on execution across the regions Sarah Head, CMP, CPM, SA, Mary Gilliss, Bethany Kadivar, Antonia McLaren, Audrey Hackworth, Allysa Turner. THANK YOU! I hope y’all had a blast Team USAA!!! More pics coming after we recover from wrapping the remaining events tonight with Charlotte ready to roll next week 🤪. The general public can join the fight too! Donate now by clicking this link: https://lnkd.in/gkUBuBSX CPT Oakley Out! #usaaserves #usaalife #usaa #usaaemployee #bowlathon #facethefight

Another amazing week working with the Army! Thank you to Bryan Frizzelle and the 1st Brigade Combat Team for the opportunity to work with your Soldiers!
Last week we had the great pleasure of working with First Brigade Combat Team, Armored Division Soldiers at Fort Bliss, TX. Our immersive training featured live action scenarios highlighting situations that commonly lead to a suicide attempt. All of the Overwatch Project actors are military veterans themselves, and they drew on their own experiences with friends in crisis to play the scenario roles. This training provides an interactive, educational experience that enables Soldiers to reinforce peer intervention skills on suicide prevention in a non-traditional environment. A comment from a Soldier: “It brought a unique and refreshing angle presenting realistic scenarios that could actually happen”, said Spc. Wystan Winter, a combat medic with Chosin Company, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1AD. “It felt worthwhile and relevant to real life, which I think is the most important part.” Through a III Armored Corps partnership, we have trained more than 7,200 1st Armored Division Soldiers in the past four months. Thank you to 1st Armored Division and First Brigade Combat Team for this opportunity to equip your Soldiers to save lives! Photo credit: SGT Marquis McCants, 1st Armored Division/ DVIDS
