Peace Corps Zambia Volunteer Hanah, fellow Volunteers, and counterparts from 15 villages joined the Luapula Beekeeping Workshop, funded by a USAID Small Program Assistance grant. Participants gained hands-on training in beekeeping, tree planting, and organic gardening—all aimed at improving food security and income. 🐝 The workshop also highlighted sustainable practices like forage management and reducing pesticide use, guided by local forestry officers. With plans for a honey processing plant in Mwense, Luapula, honey may soon reach global markets, promoting sustainable agriculture across the region. 🍯 #PeaceCorps

When Karen served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mongolia in 2013, she partnered with her local community to address a critical priority: children's dental health. 🦷 Through her language skills and strong community connections, Karen played a key role in starting up a dental clinic in her village. She engaged with teachers, parents, children, and partners to bring dental care to more than 2,100 children. This became a model of collaborative success and how to lead with a culture of mutual understanding and respect. It's with this spirt of building bridges across difference and finding common ground where we celebrate Karen as a 2024 Service Year Alliance Alum awardee! 👏 Read more about Karen's journey: https://bit.ly/3N5rnGP #ServiceYearAwards #PeaceCorps

As International Week of the Deaf comes to a close, we're sharing Rachel's story—a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who is hard of hearing. During her service in Cameroon, she adapted to understanding new accents, learned multiple languages, and was proactive in keeping her cochlear implants charged in a remote environment. Rachel shares "Just as every Peace Corps Volunteer who hears normally experiences his or her journey differently, every deaf or hard of hearing person's Peace Corps experience is unique too." Growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone, and this is especially true in the Peace Corps. When our Volunteers are immersed in new cultures, it opens new opportunities and a fresh perspective. Peace Corps Director Carol Spahn joined Nebraska Wesleyan University this week for the Senator Carol T. Curtis and Mildred M. Curtis Lecture on Public Leadership to inspire students to get outside their comfort zones and journey beyond borders.

How do we achieve peace and security in today’s complex world? Deputy Director David E. White Jr. recently spoke at Georgetown University emphasizing that peace and security goes beyond military strength. It’s rooted in relationships, trust, tolerance, and understanding. From his time as a West Point cadet to serving in Afghanistan, and now at Peace Corps, he’s seen firsthand how service creates these vital connections. At Peace Corps, we see this every day. Volunteers don’t just work on development projects—they build relationships and partnerships that strengthen communities and foster global understanding. These grassroots connections are essential to global security as any high-level negotiation. As Deputy Director White put it, "History is like a relay race." Now, it’s time for the next generation to take the baton and continue building a better, more connected world. Join us to #ServeBoldly with the Peace Corps: https://lnkd.in/eikGBqaK #PeaceCorps
