It's Red Ribbon Week! ❤️🎗️ As we close out #SubstanceUsePreventionMonth, we highlight Red Ribbon Week, the nation’s longest-running prevention campaign, focused on education and awareness in communities. This week, schools across the country are placing a special focus on substance use education. Prevention is especially crucial for adolescents—5.1 million young adults in the U.S. have a substance use disorder, yet 9 out of 10 aren’t receiving the treatment they need. And for working parents, the burden is heavy—53% report missing work due to their child's mental health issues, which often overlap with SUDs. Organizations like SAFE Project are leading the charge, offering education, resources, and support to help communities prevent and address substance use. Their mission empowers individuals to make informed, healthy choices. Learn more about #RedRibbonWeek, the role employers can play in supporting prevention, and find SAFE Project resources in our latest blog: https://hubs.la/Q02VHY350

As cannabis laws evolve, so do perceptions about its health effects and risks, creating mixed messages that can lead to the rationalization of problematic use. The reality is that regular or heavy use of cannabis can result in Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD)—a progressive loss of control over consumption that can cause significant impairment and distress. Today, 17.7 million U.S. adults are living with CUD, a 15% increase year-over-year. When cannabis use affects employees or their family members, the repercussions extend beyond health impacts and can affect workplace productivity, absenteeism, and safety. CUD education is needed. Download our white paper to learn about cannabis use, its impact on the workplace, and how employers can bridge the knowledge gap for themselves and their workforce. https://hubs.la/Q02Rvrxj0

    Behavioral Health at Amazon

Today, Amazon announced that all of our U.S. operations sites will be equipped with naloxone - an opioid overdose reversal medication. As a public health professional, I’m thrilled that Amazon is doing our part to be prepared just in the case that it is ever needed. Particularly highlighted in this article reveals what I have been working on and am so excited to share - that we have made Pelago available to U.S Amazonians for alcohol, tobacco and opioid use support. In 2023 the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) reported that 48.5 million (16.7%) Americans (aged 12 and older) battled a substance use disorder (SUDs) in the past year. I’m passionate about ensuring that our first customer, our employees, have access to high quality, effective care that reduces stigma. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Dawn Nissen, Chris DeCou, PhD, Oliver G. and many others across our greater Benefits team. I look forward to diving into conversation with peers on how they might approach SUD support. Please never hesitate to reach out. To many more Day 1’s! #publichealth #amazon #substanceuse #substanceusesupport https://lnkd.in/g2nZH-gE

Most companies have strong mental health programs in place—but what about substance use support? Despite more than half of workers believing employer support for substance and alcohol issues is crucial, only 14% report having access to these benefits. This gap leaves millions without dedicated care, leading to absenteeism, health issues, and rising costs. Our latest blog explores how employers can close this critical gap to reduce health costs and improve workforce wellbeing. Read more👇 https://hubs.la/Q02RhTkL0
