This past April, the first DTx for #maternalmentalhealth, MamaLift Plus™, was approved by the FDA. The treatment, developed by Curio, was studied by randomized control trial. Patients with mild to moderate postpartum depression who used the treatment improved by four or more points on the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). As per American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) guidelines, providers are encouraged to screen during and after pregnancy. This is enabled by the MamaLift Plus app. Screeners are presented to patients in a gamified fashion, encouraging patients to respond openly and honestly with out the stigma and pressure of sitting in front of a clinician.  https://lnkd.in/e7i2DNUB

A conversation gaining more public traction lately is how workplaces are simply not designed to support #workingmothers (who make up one third of women in the workforce) and their unique experiences, including the challenges they may face. In September 2023, the Biden administration announced the creation of a task force on maternal mental health after the passage of a 2021 law aimed at addressing maternal mental health. The task force will sunset in 2027. Joy Burkhard, the CEO of the Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health, said she hopes #Harris would build on that task force’s work even further if she’s elected. She said...the issue will require significant overhaul of the systems already in place. “We can’t just keep talking about the problem. We need to do something robust and not just tinker around the edges, which is all we can do with our current system. We need something big and bold to help solve that fundamental crisis in providing maternal care,” Burkhard said. https://lnkd.in/gjGbR9DT
