Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Tina Smith just introduced the Homes Act – a historic bill to build #SocialHousing across the country. What is social housing? It’s a better housing system, rooted in a powerful, tenant-led movement & guided by the basic idea that housing is for the people who live in it.
About us
PolicyLink is a national research and action institute advancing racial and economic equity by Lifting Up What Works®. We seek to deliver and scale results in the following arenas: Equitable Economy: Promote economic inclusion and ownership to eliminate poverty, shrink inequality, and increase mobility. Healthy Communities of Opportunity: Create and maintain opportunity-rich communities in all neighborhoods and all regions of the country through strong networks and social capital, equitable development, and infrastructure investments that enable low-income people and communities of color to thrive. Just Society: Build power and expand agency to ensure that all systems and institutions are just, free of racial bias, and lead to a vibrant democracy where all, especially the most vulnerable, can participate and prosper. We succeed by weaving together four essential functions: Advocacy that advances policy change at all levels of government and across sectors. Applied research and communications that build public and political will for inclusion, justice, and broadly shared prosperity. Constituency and network engagement that empowers leaders to advance equity. Implementation capacity that connects local innovations to policy; and provides stakeholders with needed data and tools. Our work would not be possible without support from a broad array of people, organizations, and communities. Our mission is to advance racial and economic equity by Lifting Up What Works®. Help achieve policies that can ensure equity for all by lending your support. Your contribution makes Lifting Up What Works® possible and enables us to disseminate our findings and provide strategic guidance to coalitions throughout the country. Help create communities of opportunity where everyone can participate and prosper. INVEST IN EQUITY. Chief Executive Officer | Fortune 100 Corporate Board Director, Chair, Compensation Committee | Recipient Skoll Award for Social Innovation
Recently, along with PolicyLink’s Vice President of Research Abbie Langston, I wrote “A Revolution of the Soul” for the Stanford Social Innovation Review. At this pivotal moment in history, we must embrace our role as the true founders of our nation, acknowledging both its flaws and its potential. Our commitment to equity is not just about policies—it's about revolutionary love and ensuring every individual has the opportunity to thrive. It is time to embrace our shared humanity and create a future where dignity and opportunity are universally accessible. By honoring past generations and caring for those yet to come, we affirm our dedication to a more just and inclusive society. Let's lead with purpose and transform our vision into meaningful action. The Bay Area Equity Atlas's "In Their Own Words..." series illuminates how equity-focused data intersects with the daily realities of Bay Area residents. Grounded in the personal stories and insights residents share, this project showcases the rich tapestry of cultures, voices, and experiences across the nine-county region. This data-driven storytelling approach provides a unique lens to explore pressing equity issues, including housing instability, linguistic isolation, transit inaccessibility, and economic insecurity. By bridging the gap between Atlas data and lived experiences, the series offers a fuller picture of the complexities of life in the Bay Area. Dive into these stories here: https://lnkd.in/g-ZwC93u

Yesterday, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) released a new report, What Good Looks Like: A Corporate Accountability Report on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, finding strong support for DEI among Fortune 500 companies despite ongoing attacks and sharing vital best practices for companies to level up their efforts. In the report, PolicyLink and the Corporate Racial Equity Alliance (CRE Alliance) were referenced for our work that includes broad stakeholder engagement and extensive research focused on the key levers for corporations to meaningfully advance greater economic inclusion for all. The report also highlights the CBC’s recommendation to all corporations to adopt the CRE Alliance’s Business Standards for 21st Century Leadership. We are proud to have supported this effort and invite companies to learn more about the Business Standards on our website: https://lnkd.in/gvrvFCkt. The insights and recommendations set forth by the CBC's report are vital if we want to create an inclusive economy so that our nation can work for all.
