SPOTLIGHT: Kadena Air Base – Okinawa, Japan Last month, the Pond-CDM Smith JV team of architects, engineers and asset management professionals returned to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, to continue supporting the base's planning and design needs as part of our ongoing task order supporting Pacific Air Forces' (PACAF) facilities sustainment, restoration, and modernization (FSRM) programs at bases throughout the Pacific. The multi-disciplinary team met with the 18th Civil Engineer Group to conduct charrettes and facility condition assessments at Kadena AB to generate a path forward for several projects including repairing a fire suppression system at a fuels dock, implementing typhoon and code compliance updates to a child development center, interior renovations to an enlisted airmen's dorm, and structural repairs to an on-site chapel. Our team is proud to have the opportunity to continue our efforts to improve both installation resiliency and quality of life for Kadena AB’s personnel and their families living in Okinawa, Japan. #PowerofPond #PACAF #Kadena

Last week, Pond participated in a beam signing ceremony to celebrate another milestone in Middle Georgia State University's Eastman Campus expansion. Pond is providing comprehensive planning, programming, architecture, interior design, engineering, and construction administration services to support the university's new aviation program. When completed, this expansion will bring aircraft maintenance, structural technologies, propulsion training programs, flight simulation, air traffic control, and avionics lab improvements to the university. #PowerofPond #MGSU #Aviation

Last week, several members of Pond's Jacksonville office participated in Build Putt Give, an annual charity event for engineering and surveying companies focused on giving back to the community. Each team is tasked with constructing mini-golf holes using non-perishable food items, decorative props, and out-of-the-box ideas. Participants then compete in a putt-putt tournament, with the goal of donating thousands of pounds of food to families in need. Since its inception in 2014, Build Putt Give has helped donate more than 67,000 pounds of food, provided $25,000 to food pantries, awarded more than $11,000 in engineering scholarships, and contributed $1,000 to childhood cancer research. This year marks our 10th year participating, and it was made even more special that we took home an award!
