We’re thrilled to announce that POST recently acquired the stunning 1,340-acre Pescadero Ranch in southeastern Santa Cruz County! This property provides essential connectivity for wildlife moving between the Southern Santa Cruz Mountains and the Gabilan Range. Safeguarding these passages helps promote biodiversity and climate resilience in our region. Pescadero Ranch is also part of the Juristac Tribal Cultural Landscape. Its meaningful spiritual, cultural, and natural components are sacred to the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band. In addition to its cultural significance, this remarkable property includes habitat for several at-risk species. Golden eagles and northern harriers forage on its grassy, oak-dotted hillsides. Its streams and ponds suit California red-legged frogs, California tiger salamanders, steelhead trout, yellow-legged frogs, and southwestern pond turtles. We were excited to see today's coverage in the Mercury News and the Chronicle! Read the press release for more information.

POST protects open space on the San Francisco Peninsula and in the South Bay for the benefit of all!
About us
Our Mission: POST protects open space on the Peninsula and in the South Bay for the benefit of all. Our Vision: POST is creating a network of protected lands where people and nature connect and thrive. These lands are preserved forever so present and future generations benefit from the careful balance of rural and urban landscapes that makes our region extraordinary. Our Impact: Since our founding in 1977, POST has protected more than 87,000 acres of permanent open space, farms and parkland in San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. These lands are now part of the National Park system, National Wildlife Refuge system, California State Parks, county and city parks, regional preserves and private farmland. POST takes a science-driven approach in our decisions about land acquisition and stewardship so that every property is appropriately cared for.

We’re thrilled to announce our collaboration with Vishal Subramanyan! 📸 Vishal's photography is helping us better understand how wildlife moves across the Bay Area while also providing a rare peek at some of our more elusive wildlife. Vishal's camera trapping work allows him to photograph local creatures without being physically present, minimizing disruptions to their day-to-day lives. This process yields stunning imagery that not only captivates but also educates and raises awareness about the diverse wildlife traveling across our region. His expertise in camera trapping provides instrumental insights into their movement patterns. 🐾

We are excited to announce that POST has secured nearly $3 million in funding as part of a $71.1 million grant awarded to our partners at the California Marine Sanctuary Foundation from NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. We will work with 21 partner organizations to create a regional, collaborative approach to addressing flooding and wildfire risks! POST is thrilled that these funds will support our forest management work at San Vicente Redwoods with our partners at Sempervirens Fund, Save the Redwoods League, and the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County. It's fantastic that a federal agency recognized the importance and efficacy of shaded fuel breaks and prescribed burns to improve forest health and protect surrounding communities.
