Our fall operations meeting is a chance to share updates on the company's status while offering valuable training breakout sessions for our employees. Alongside sessions led by our quality support team on ADA/Accessibility and roofing lessons learned, we also held an important discussion on mental health in the construction industry. This session equipped attendees with essential tools to recognize and address mental health challenges within teams, emphasizing practical strategies to promote a mentally healthy work environment. We highlighted the significance of early intervention, recognizing signs of distress among team members, and approaching them in an effective, empathetic, and non-threatening manner.

Nearing completion in Cleveland is the 158,000 sf, 11-story Library Lofts. Part of the Circle Square development and adjacent to another completed Power project, The Artisan, this building features 207 market-rate apartments and a third-floor amenity space. Constructed atop the Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch of the Cleveland Public Library, floors 1-7 have received partial occupancy with the first tenants moving in last week. The remaining floors are on track for year end completion. Building the residential building concurrent with construction of the library, daily coordination among both the teams and trades was crucial to keeping both projects on schedule. Given the building's complexity and the tight site constraints, collaboration and careful planning were essential for smooth progress on all fronts.

The Ludlow Typograph Company Building, once the heart of the nation's printing revolution, has undergone a significant transformation into a 151,000 sf adaptive reuse apartment complex at 2032 N Clybourn. Originally built in 1913, this landmark structure consists of five distinct "blocks," each added throughout the century to accommodate the letterpress factory's expansion needs. Now, these blocks, still distinct in their architectural styles, have been repurposed into over 120 residential units with amenities including two tenant lounges, 19,000 sf of commercial space, a food hall, and a rooftop bar open to the public. Extra care was taken to preserve and fortify existing features such as the brick masonry and structural support beams. All windows were custom-manufactured to match the historical window design. This redevelopment, led by Heart of America Group and designed by GREC Architects, blends history and modern living in one of Chicago’s architectural gems.

We are excited to announce the completion of 920 N Wells—a milestone in JDL Development’s six-acre North Union development. Standing 21 stories tall and 251,000 sf, the building holds 238 residential units—including duplex units on the top two floors— three levels of above ground parking, first floor retail, double-height amenity space, and a rooftop terrace boasting unobstructed city views. Designed by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, the units reflect modern mid-century influences and feature floor-to-ceiling windows and ergonomic utilities, creating a refined and open space. Congratulations to the entire project team on this completion!

Our United Insulated Structures team recently completed the design+build project for Vanee Foods! Located in Broadview, this 61,000 sf expansion enhances their facility to meet the growing demands and improve the work environment for Vanee's team. Key features include a -5°F freezer, 38°F dock, ambient dry storage, compactor/trash rooms and welfare upgrades. Our dedicated safety and quality teams were engaged in the preconstruction phase, ensuring a strong start. We also self-performed insulated metal panels and carpentry work. By utilizing an innovative suction cup technique, we installed freezer panels in just seven days, showcasing our dedication to both innovation and efficiency. Vanee Foods Company #designbuild #selfperform #insulatedmetalpanels

Adding to one of Chicago's most pronounced intersections, Millennium Park Plaza houses 13,000 sf of prime real estate. This project required precise logistical planning due to the site’s constraints—busy streets, adjacent buildings, and the interaction of upper and lower Randolph. With only four feet of working space allowed around the building, our team installed narrow pedestrian canopies to minimize disruptions. Additionally, we secured permits to shore up nearby overpasses, ensuring they remained structurally sound while transporting heavy equipment and materials through major thoroughfares. Congrats to the entire project team for their hard work and ingenuity that brought this complex build to life.

Continuing our work within 222 N LaSalle, our #WorkplaceGroup recently completed a 24,000 sf build-out on Level 19. The floor was transformed into five turnkey spec suites, ranging from 2,000 to 6,000 sf, complemented by an amenity space thoughtfully designed to foster collaboration. Each suite has its own unique design motif and includes private offices, workstations, conference rooms, and a café. Significant upgrades were made to the base building corridors, elevator lobby, and restrooms to align aesthetically with the suites.
