The OR team at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital went the extra mile in celebrating bariatric surgeon David Moffat, MD, for completing his 500th da Vinci robotic surgery case. Dr. Moffat says, "robotic assisted surgery has been transformative to my practice and the patients that I care for. This technology allows me to take on the most challenging cases with confidence knowing that I can provide a very reproducible positive outcome for the patient. I have seen faster recovery and shorter hospitalizations after surgery for patients, which in turn allows them to return to work and their lives much sooner. #RoboticSurgery #BariatricSurgery

Prisma Health is proud to be the official health care system and team physicians for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. On Saturday before USC faced Texas A&M, emergency medicine physicians Zach Kiker, MD, and Laura Nolting, MD, accepted game balls on behalf of Prisma Health in recognition of the outstanding care provided to the Midlands community. We are excited to share that Prisma Health has earned the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) recognition as a 2024 Digital Health Most Wired organization. The award recognizes our systemic deployment of technology and the way we use innovation, equipment, hardware and digital tools to improve the quality of care for our patients and enrich their experience at every encounter. Chief Information Officer Rich Rogers said the award is a testament to our efforts across the organization to take advantage of technology to not only improve the patient experience but also to help our teams work more efficiently and productively. “It makes clinical information readily available to our clinicians and caregivers, and it’s a reflection that we’re driving innovation and always looking for better ways to improve operations,” he said. “It’s not only the deployment of that technology but also how effectively we are using it. This award is an affirmation of the work of this entire organization. It’s a tribute to our medical staff, our nurses, our clinical teams, our revenue cycle team … we should all be proud.” Thank you to our incredible teams and partners for working around the clock to achieve this recognition! #PrismaHealthProud #HealthInformationTechnology #HealthcareInnovation

Join us in congratulating Kayla Witthoeft, a post-anesthesia and critical care nurse at Oconee Memorial Hospital, on receiving the prestigious 2024 Magnet Nurse of the Year for leading innovative research projects that helped children recover more quickly from surgery! Throughout her career, Kayla's innovative mindset and caring demeanor has had a significant impact on patients and their families. In 2021, she worked with anesthesiologists and others on a groundbreaking quality-improvement initiative to combat emergence delirium in pediatric post-operative patients. Additionally, in 2023, Kayla led initiatives to pre-warm surgical patients, preventing postoperative hypothermia and reducing the risk of infections. "Every day, I am motivated by the privilege of being a voice for the most vulnerable populations, ensuring they receive the care they deserve,” says Kayla, who inspired her father to get his own nursing degree in his 50’s. “As nurses, we have the opportunity and responsibility to help shape the future of health care. I urge all nurses to embrace continuous learning and innovation. Let's remain curious and explore innovative ways to improve patient care.” For Witthoeft, the award honors the entire OMH team. "I am privileged to work with a group of nurses who enthusiastically embrace new knowledge. This recognition is a testament to the power of collaboration and the relentless pursuit of excellence. It’s not just a personal achievement but a testament to the incredible teamwork and support I have received from my colleagues." #PrismaHealthProud #HealthcareHeroes #CriticalCareNurse #MagnetNurseoftheYear
