We're confronting one of the defining issues of our generation: the mental health crisis. Are you in?

About us

Who we are: Project Healthy Minds is a new millennial/Gen Z-driven non-profit startup focused on tackling one of the defining issues of our generation: the growing mental health crisis. The problem we're solving: 615 million people worldwide and 65 million Americans are diagnosed with a mental health condition, and yet 60% never get mental health support. There are three drivers of this "treatment gap": (1) the stigmatization of the health topic, (2) people don’t know where/how to access care, and (3) insurance constraints and a workforce shortage preclude too many people from being able to afford care. What we do: We're building a digital discovery marketplace (think Kayak.com or Expedia for discovering mental health services) -- to make it easier to find mental health care. We're building an unprecedented national anti-stigma and education campaign featuring celebrities -- to destigmatize mental health and meet millennials/Gen Z where they actually are. We're creating the first national standards for what businesses should do to better serve the mental health needs of their employees -- to expand availability of care.

ICYMI: With Election Day just days away, Project Healthy Minds 2024 State of Mental Health Survey, conducted by The Harris Poll among over 2,000 U.S. adults, reveals that nearly three in five Americans (58%) report the 2024 election has negatively impacted their mental health over the past year, but election anxiety is just one of many issues weighing on the nation. A staggering 66% of Americans say finances, including inflation and the rising cost of living, have also had a negative impact on their mental health. Other issues negatively impacting Americans’ mental health include recent mass shootings (60%), and extreme weather events (53%). Nearly all who have struggled with their mental health (95%) have experienced a situation where they have needed mental health support, and 77% say they did not always seek mental health services when they did need it because of perceived barriers to support. “Americans are facing a perfect storm of stressors, and while election anxiety is dominating headlines, it’s clear that financial pressures and safety concerns are equally overwhelming for many,” said Phillip Schermer, Founder and CEO of Project Healthy Minds. “This data paints a picture of a country grappling with multiple, overlapping mental health challenges...Now is the time for innovative solutions and expanded access to mental health services.” See the full results: https://lnkd.in/gETVJShS

A World Mental Health Day festival celebrating the destigmatizing of mental health? Say no more fam 🫡 Project Healthy Minds delivered on bringing together some incredibly insightful minds in the mental health sector to move otherwise “taboo” topics out of the dark, and into the light of day. Every time an event like this is held, someone has a chance to be helped, and innovated minds get the chance to come together. Vulnerability queen Demi Lovato along with Carson Daly and Michael Ratner discussed in depth the narrative that is shown on mental health in the media- and where we need to go from here. I also attended an excellent panel on the state of Parents mental health- which we know is greatly suffering- and enjoyed some insights from Very Well Minds, therapist Kier Ganes, The Motherhood Center of New York , and Grace Bastidas. Another one discussing the state of US mental health with Kathy Hochul and moderator Lindsey Davis. Also enjoyed some light (and delightfully dark) comedy from Gary Gullman. I pulled Phillip Schermer aside when I had a chance to let him know this has become an annual event for me- and to keep doing what he’s doing with Project Healthy Minds! Fun fact: this resulted in a quick behind the scenes interview 😀 #Grateful Loved attending with Danielle Widmann, LMHC #projecthealthyminds #worldmentalhealthday #therapy

Yesterday was nothing short of extraordinary! 🌟 I had the privilege of attending the Project Healthy Minds' World Mental Health Day Festival in New York, and what an inspiring day! From thought-provoking mainstage talks to peaceful moments during yoga and meditation, it was all about putting mental health at the forefront. 💚 Panels by influential leaders like Governor Kathy Hochul, Demi Lovato, Bob Roth, and others, it was incredible to witness their dedication to mental health advocacy. I felt the collective energy and commitment to breaking down mental health stigmas. It was a powerful reminder that taking care of our minds is just as important as our bodies. A big thank you to Project Healthy Minds for the invitation and for organizing such an impactful event. Grateful to have been part of this movement! Let’s keep this conversation going and continue supporting each other on this mental wellness journey. 💪✨ #MentalHealthMatters #ProjectHealthyMinds #SelfCare #WorldMentalHealthDay
