  • Students who live in a household that makes $90,000 or less a year are now eligible for a Colorado tax credit that will help pay for the first two years of college. State leaders say accessing that credit for the first time should be an easy process for students attending school this year. Learn more about how Colleges or universities will track which students are eligible and then notify them. But students will still have to file their own tax return to get the money will help pay for the first two years of college!

Our Director of Policy, Naomi Amaha, joined a delegation of community leaders on the Heritage Tour organized by the Hancock Foundation.  The delegation traveled through Alabama to visit historical sites, museums, and memorials, exemplifying the history of the Black American experience and the civil rights movement. Sites visited include the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, 16th Street Baptist Church, Freedom Rides Museum, Legacy Museum, and National Memorial for Peace and Justice. The trip also incorporated conversations with the Mayors of Selma and Montgomery, Alabama.   “As someone who has dedicated their career to advancing systems change, this trip reinforced for me why we must understand the history of communities to address the root causes of inequities,” said Naomi Amaha.    If you want to learn more about the goals of the Heritage Tour, please visit https://lnkd.in/g_DFu85f

  • Together, we’re bridging the gaps and creating impactful pathways for students across the Colorado!

This week, we gathered at The Apprentice Of Peace Youth Organization for an insightful session on postsecondary education, made possible by our sponsor, Prosperity Denver Fund. Their support for nearly three dozen nonprofits is making college and career training more accessible across the city. We had the privilege of learning about impactful initiatives from Denver Scholarship Foundation, Puksta Foundation, and Prodigy Ventures Inc Ventures. Directors and program participants shared powerful stories of how their work is shaping the community. Our Solution Session series allows us to zoom in on a singular issue and explore different approaches to addressing them. There is a disparity in the support elementary, middle, and high school students receive that ultimately impact their decision to pursue post secondary education. Through scholarships, apprenticeships, school partnerships and more, organizations in Denver have creative approaches to closing the gap in access for students across Denver.  Some shoutouts to a few people that made this event so special - Pos Ryant, Mauryell Smith El, Tracy Williams, Korrine Salas Young, Rebecca Arno, Aron Emilio Garcia Reyes, Karen Nuñez Sifuentes, Gabriela Molinar-Castillo, NiChel Mulstay, John Mulstay, Jeslin Shahrezaei, Brian Labra Vergara, and Nathan Cadena. You are all wonderful people doing wonderful work and we are so glad to be in partnership with you!
