  • Fear of losing tax-exempt status has kept too many nonprofit leaders from advocating for the very causes they serve. Colorado House Bill 25-1170 aims to change that. 🏛️ Currently, even a brief conversation with an elected official can force nonprofit leaders to register as lobbyists—a term that carries unnecessary stigma and deters many from speaking up. The result? A chilling effect on advocacy, silencing organizations that should have a voice in shaping policies that impact their communities. 🏛️ HB25-1170 introduces a common-sense solution: A de minimis exception allowing nonprofit advocates to spend up to 12 hours per year engaging with policymakers before triggering lobbying registration. 🏛️ This bill is not about reducing transparency—it’s about encouraging civic participation. Nonprofits play a vital role in representing underserved communities and HB25-1170 ensures their voices are heard. Now is the time to support this critical step toward a more inclusive, representative and empowered nonprofit sector in Colorado. Let’s encourage our legislators to vote YES on HB25-1170! Join the movement. Advocate for advocacy. Read how President & CEO Paul Lhevine is leading the charge: https://lnkd.in/gtqut5Ck
