Daryl Pritchard, Senior Vice President of Science Policy, Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC), knows the importance of addressing disparities in personalized #medicineresearch. Daryl and PMC came to Pyxis Partners in 2021 in search of strategies to tackle those disparities and to support their mission of promoting the understanding and adoption of personalized medicine concepts, services, and products to benefit patients and #healthsystems. We’re #PyxisProud to work with PMC and bring our shared passion for elevating the voices of those historically underrepresented in the healthcare and clinical trial universe to this important work. Pyxis Partners applauds the Reagan-Udall Foundation for the FDA for their leadership in the development and release of the RAISE Action Framework. This Framework, which aims to improve the standard of collection and curation of race and ethnicity data in healthcare, will serve as a vital resource for improving care and addressing health equity gaps. Pyxis Partners supports its key components, including: incentivizing race and ethnicity data collection, standardizing data collection methods, aggregating data collected locally, and training the healthcare workforce on best practices in collecting race and ethnicity data from patients and research study participants. Soliciting community input was central to collecting real-world applications included in this Framework. Last spring, Pyxis Partners Principal, Ronnie Tepp, shared a case study detailing our work with a community partner to add a new race/ethnicity category to a participant survey for The National Institutes of Health's All of Us Research Program. We are passionate about working in partnership with communities to build trust in #healthresearch and advance #healthequity in the United States. We're #PyxisProud to continue to work alongside the Reagan-Udall Foundation and support the utilization of the RAISE Action Framework as we both strive towards improved #diversityandinclusion in healthcare data collection. https://lnkd.in/eDRfCr_7

Last month, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) introduced The American Cures Act, which would establish mandatory funds to provide steady and predictable funding of #medicalresearch at The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United States Department of Defense (DoD), and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Act would help governmental research agencies overcome the uncertainty of the Congressional funding process - where critical investments in biomedical and scientific research are often at risk. Cosponsors of the bill include Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). In a press release announcing the introduction of the bill, Sen. Durbin highlighted how a COVID-19 vaccine, and treatments and cures to many other diseases, would not exist without steady funding for the scientific research that led to those breakthrough discoveries. #PolicyTalkTuesday

Pyxis Partners team member Meredith Wilson recently attended the The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Diagnosis in the Era of Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence workshop. The workshop examined the opportunities and challenges that come with improving diagnosis in the era of digital health and artificial intelligence (AI).  Some key takeaways included: - how digital health can support patients from symptom onset - how AI strategies can work to advance health equity for older adults - disparities exist in access to new technologies and strategies must be developed to reduce barriers to access #PyxisProud to have Meredith attend this valuable workshop, as we continue to monitor advances in technology, new opportunities to improve diagnosis and health outcomes, and work to ensure that diverse community voices help to inform the policies and regulatory frameworks that will guide these advances. #communityengagement
