Scaling: yes, it's possible. If you're wondering whether #climatetech developed in our new #UCBerkeley incubator could have an impact on the national scale, pay attention to what Pivot Bio has accomplished. Pivot was launched in the QB3 Garage@UCSF and its microbial fertilizer is now used on 5% of American corn crops. They've faced an uphill regulatory battle in pioneering this vital strand of solving the climate crisis. We will definitely be learning from them. "Pivot estimates that last year, its treated seeds prevented the release of an estimated 706,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent — comparable to the greenhouse gases from burning 1.5 million barrels of oil." https://lnkd.in/dbm2Uktc David Schaffer Jeremy Alberga Katarina Klett (she/her)

Thanks to Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, every six months one company in the QB3 mentoring program will win a free IP landscape analysis. Thanks, Adam J. Cole, Ph.D., Esq. & Ali Alemozafar! Analyzing your IP landscape is how you can begin to figure out whether you have freedom to operate -- which you need to know in order to talk knowledgeably with investors. QB3 also partners with UC Law SF and Berkeley Law to recommend candidates for their IP landscape analysis programs too. Thanks, Paul Belonick and Allison Schmitt! Both QB3 mentoring and the IP landscape program are taking applications through Friday, November 15. Learn more on our website. https://lnkd.in/gEkD3wE7

Meet your co-founder here. Yes we're doing this! And if it looks like we're copying Darren Cooke's Berkeley LSEC Speed Teaming... that's because this IS that event. Except now it is also open to people from other universities, and those who have no university affiliation. However, we are prioritizing participants from the SF Bay Area, because our goal is to generate new companies for our regional ecosystem including our #UCBerkeley incubator Bakar Labs. Looking forward to seeing some cool new companies come out of this.

#DYK that #genomics could provide many solutions to what is going to have to be a "silver shotgun" approach to combating and mitigating climate change? While reducing fossil fuel usage is priority #1, there is a surprising range of ways genomics could make a significant difference, including 🐄 Reducing methane from cow burps & farts 🌾 Modifying the microbial environment in rice paddies ☀️ Improving the efficiency of plant photosynthesis -- without GMO plants, btw Everyone at the event was motivated to make a difference. Thanks to our hardworking colleagues at Innovative Genomics Institute who put on this excellent all-day event. Carolyn Sherry Susan Abrahamson Bradley Ringeisen
✨ We had an incredible day at Inside IGI Climate Conference yesterday hosted by the Innovative Genomics Institute! ✨ A couple standout moments for me: 🌱 Our Chancellor, Rich Lyons, gave a special shoutout to the new climate tech incubator our team is building! It's inspiring to see the excitement already building around how the incubator will support the university’s deep commitment to long-term societal benefit. 💡 We also heard from the USDA's Under Secretary and Chief Scientist, Chavonda Jacobs-Young, Ph.D., who outlined their top 5 priorities. One that really resonated was their goal to translate research into action—something our QB3 team is passionate about supporting every day. 💗 Grateful for the chance to connect with so many brilliant minds and explore how we can make a lasting impact together. #Innovation #ClimateTech #ResearchToAction #ImpactfulScience #IGIClimate

Today is the 9th annual National Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Day! Here's how we're celebrating: internal demolition has begun at the future site of our #climatetech incubator on the west side of the #UCBerkeley campus, to be operated by Bakar Labs. Learn about our climate pilot program at https://bch.berkeley.edu/ (Will anyone mourn this unlovely building?)

Last week's New Energy Nexus event for CA's clean energy entrepreneurs was #NEXLEVEL 🧡 It was such a treat to learn about the transformative clean tech coming out of our state and the many resources available to founders in the space. We at QB3 and Bakar Labs are so excited to be a part of this ecosystem. Check out our pilot program to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gZQedHmw Thank you to the New Energy Nexus team for hosting and to the Berkeley Lab for the FLEXLAB tour! My favorite part of the tour? When Marco Pritoni shared that "this building spins!".
