The role of #naturalgas in #powergeneration is huge. As the highest source of US primary #energy, one third of US produced natural gas goes to producing electricity. With more and more renewable sources connecting to the grid, natural gas provides swift dispatchable #power needed to ensure reliability. It follows that natural gas and power markets have become more interconnected. When analysts model #powermarkets, what happens when an assumed gas price input (gas as a fuel for power) produces results out of alignment with actual prices at the resultant gas demand? To fully understand the intricacies of how gas and power markets interact, you need a way for #powermarket models and #gasmarket models to communicate. You need a tool that enables you to eliminate differentials between price and demand forecasts generated by these market models. You need Gas4Power®. There has been a wide range of #naturalgas spot prices at hubs around the #UnitedStates in 2024. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that prices have varied by as much as decreasing by almost $4 at times in #Waha to increasing by as much as nearly $12 at Algonquin Citygate. How do gas producers respond to price fluctuations? Their response has changed quite dramatically over recent years, to be more fluid almost like a trader would act. Scott McKenna researched how producers have evolved in their responses to price changes and how #gasproduction has been affected as a result. Last year, RBAC, Inc.’s James Brooks raised this critical question in his article “Has the Energy Transition Been Cancelled?” Despite huge investments, progress towards global renewable energy goals seemed slow. One year later, are we on the brink of a renewable revolution or still far off? In 2023, almost 1/2 a Terawatt of renewable capacity was added—surpassing the target. So, what does that mean in real terms for the goals laid out? Find out more next week when RBAC releases 'Renewables, Reality and Evaluating the Global Energy Transition'
