In 2016, #SaudiArabia revealed the 'Saudi Vision 2030' program which aimed to diversify the economy and create a better environment for both local and international investors. In terms of #energy, one of the major goals was to reduce #carbonemissions by 278 mtpa. This would be accomplished through expansion of #naturalgas, #LNG, and #renewable energy. Saudi Arabia is in possession of vast reserves of both oil and gas and is already a market leader in #oil. To broaden its economic and energy portfolios, aramco has signed $25 billion in various expansion projects of the natural gas sector. These projects include #exploration and #production, new #pipelines, and moving from utilizing gas instead of oil for power generation. Saudi Arabia aims to build off the success in oil and become a major player in the natural gas industry and is investing heavily in making this dream a reality. With 229 tcf of confirmed reserves in the #Jafurah gas field, if developed properly, the chance is high for success. In 2023, #Mexico imported a record high amount of #naturalgas from the #UnitedStates as Mexico is increasing the presence of gas in power and industrial sectors. This surge in imports (8% more than 2022) was primarily caused by lower than average prices. Mexico will also be importing gas to fuel its future #LNG export facilities.
