Today’s Disagreement is on AI Tutoring and K-12 Education. Will AI tutors enable a revolution in personalized learning? For anyone working in education during the heady days of the mid-2010s, you will recall the groundswell of enthusiasm for "personalized learning." Everywhere you turned, you heard phrases like "Blended Learning," "Hybrid Learning," "Personalized Pathways," "Student-centered Instruction," “Student Ownership,” and "Choice and Voice." A decade later, the core structure of teaching and learning in K-12 schools has not dramatically changed.  Instruction looks more or less the way it did 50 years ago, just with more screens and apps. Will this time around be different? We've brought together two experts to answer this question: Niels Hoven is the Founder and CEO of Mentava, a software tutoring company that helps preschool students learn how to read (as early as ages 2 and 3). Benjamin Riley is the founder of Cognitive Resonance, a new venture dedicated to improving understanding of human cognition and generative AI. This is a special episode because it was recorded at Reach Capital Founders' Day at 1440 Multiversity outside San Jose.  Reach Capital was one of the earliest investors in my previous company, BetterLesson.
