As the labor market continues to change, economists are intrigued as some industries are adding jobs by the thousands while others are making similar-sized layoffs. For example, as companies like TikTok, Google, and Microsoft make significant cuts to their workforce, we can’t help but liken it to pandemic times and wonder if we’re seeing the next monumental wave of layoffs. Past layoffs were repercussions of overhiring. Now we’re seeing a different pattern, one far more preventable. Article in comments on the hidden and preventable reason for layoffs. #RNN #RecruitingNewsNetwork #Layoffs

It's no secret that the cost of a college education continues to climb. In 1963, the annual cost of tuition at a 4-year public school was $243 ($2,482 when adjusted for inflation). Today's in-state tuition averages $9,750 annually, while out-of-state tuition is almost 3x higher. But the rising cost of pursuing higher education is beyond financial—it can affect students’ mental health long past graduation. Will workers ever reach pre-pandemic levels of happiness? It’s hard to say, according to researchers. Analyzing data from 57,000 employees, BambooHR has found a steady decline in happiness since 2020. Overall, the score dipped from 44 in May 2020 to 35 in May 2024, signifying a “troubling trend.” Article in comments on why employees are "unhappier than ever" after research showed worker happiness tanked in Q2. #RNN #RecruitingNewsNetwork #EmployeeHappiness

As we continue to venture into this new era of recruiting under the shining light (or concealing shadow?!) of artificial intelligence, it’s made me truly consider what qualities and skills make up the core of our industry. There have been some erroneous claims made that with the help of generative AI anyone can be a sourcer — but I don’t think this is true. AI lacks that creative ability to understand, critically interpret, and, most importantly in my opinion, spot patterns. Article in comments on why the best tool for sourcing is (still) a sharp mind. #RNN #RecruitingNewsNetwork #Sourcing #AI
