3 MtCO₂ by 2050 in the UK. This is the *combined* biochar and enhanced weathering carbon removal capacity, modelled into the UK Climate Change Committee's (CCC) Seventh Carbon Budget. That's just 8.4% of the total budget (total is c.36 MtCO₂). Here's a breakdown: - BECCS capacity is expected to be 25 MtCO₂ - DACCS capacity is expected to be 8 MtCO₂ - Biochar and enhanced weathering is 3 MtCO₂ If you are pro biochar, on first glance, you might find that number to be disappointing. On the contrary, it's brilliant to see biochar featured given it wasn't even modelled in *any* scenarios in the previous report in 2020. As awareness for biochar grows, more field trials are conducted and new projects get setup, I wouldn't be surprised if biochar takes a significantly larger share of that 36 MtCO₂ number in future budgets. Particularly given biochar can work with existing land practices as opposed to competing for land. What do other UK biochar people think?
