How Customer & Prospect Lookalike Ads (Meta) Work in B2B Advertising Our B2B SaaS clients have been experiencing excellent ROI and a strong LTV:CAC ratio with Meta Lookalike ads recently. These types of ads are an effective way to scale your reach by targeting leads who closely resemble your current customers and prospects. Begin with a 1% match rate on your Lookalike Ads. As long as your lookalike audience consists of 1,000+ people, you'll be able to target individuals who share similar characteristics, such as location, job title, geography, interests, groups, age, and gender. You can run three types of Lookalike ads: 1️⃣ Prospect Lookalike Ads: These ads target new audiences who resemble your past prospects, such as those who engaged with demos, trials, or other lead generation efforts. This option is ideal when you don’t yet have 1,000 customer contacts to use but have gathered at least 1,000 prospects. It helps you expand your reach by finding new leads who share characteristics with your existing prospects. 2️⃣ Customer Lookalike Ads: These ads are optimized for targeting audiences who mirror your current customers. They require a minimum of 1,000 contacts from your customer base. For example, if you have 500 customers and each has 2 contacts, or if you have over 1,000 customers, this approach is highly effective. It leverages the characteristics of your existing customers to find new potential leads who are likely to be interested in your offerings. 3️⃣ Conversion Event Lookalike Ads: Once your ad campaigns start generating results, you can create lookalike audiences based on users who have completed specific conversion events, such as making a purchase, booking an appointment, or submitting a lead form. This method refines your targeting by focusing on individuals who have already shown a willingness to engage with your sales process, allowing you to attract new leads who are similar to your most valuable prospects. While some say Meta isn’t as good as LinkedIn for B2B Marketing, we’ve found in managing millions of dollars of B2B ad spend that Meta drives more qualified leads and new customer volume at a lower cost than LinkedIn. While LinkedIn is great for content boosting and getting your content in front of your audience, Meta is great for catching those same prospects on Instagram or Facebook in the evenings – and driving lead fills. #SaasRise #SaaS #LookalikeAds #TargetedAdvertising #AdScaling #AudienceExpansion #MetaAds #ProspectLookalike #LeadGeneration #ProspectTargeting #NewLeads #LeadExpansion #CustomerLookalike #CustomerTargeting #CustomerAcquisition #CustomerGrowth #ClientAcquisition Interested in joining or learning more? How Matched Audience Ads Work in B2B Advertising (Part 8) Today, I dive into matched audience ads (also known as custom audience ads). These are incredibly powerful for showing ads directly to your target market. You can run these types of ads on Meta, LinkedIn, Google Display, Bing, and Adroll. Matched Audience Ads Matched audience ads are the way to do Account Based Marketing (ABM) using display advertising. You upload a list of warm prospects and cold leads and show ads to them. Step 1 - Upload your list of prospects from your CRM tool and show ads to this audience. Step 2 - Export a list of leads that match your target market (location, industry, revenue, employee count, etc.) using your favorite lead prospecting tool (Apollo, Instantly, Seamless, ListKit, ZoomInfo, etc.) and then upload this list to the above platforms and then show ads to this target audience. You can expect match rates around 30-50%. Use a lead prospecting tool like Apollo to build a list of target accounts based on industry, employee count, job title, and geography. Then upload this email list to the ad networks (Google, Meta, LinkedIn, Bing, Adroll) and show ads to the people it matches against. We were able to find a solid contact on Fivrrr who has a Enterprise high volume account on Apollo and provides access to the data at a lower cost than you could personally get directly through Apollo. Message me within the SaasRise platform or on WhatsApp for an introduction. You could also use an expensive demand gen tool like 6Sense or DemandBase to upload lists of target accounts to the ad networks, but the above methodology is a lot less expensive. Another use case for matched audiences is advertising to your former customers that you may want to re-engage. You can simply use the same method above and upload the list of your past customers to all of the platforms. #ABM #Fivrrr #DigitalMarketing #LeadGeneration #Advertising #AccountBasedMarketing #MarketingTips #SaaS #SaasRise #MatchedAudienceAds #Apollo #Instantly #Seamless #ListKit #ZoomInfo In the next post of this ongoing series on digital ads for B2B SaaS companies, I will dive into the fourth category: Customer & Prospect Lookalike Ads (Meta) Interested in joining or learning more? How to Make Your Brand Omnipresent Within Your ICP (Part7) Today, I dive into retargeting ads. Retargeting involves showing ads to individuals who have previously interacted with your company, ads, or website. You can set up different ads to target: ✅ Website visitors from the last 180 days ✅ Trial users ✅ Lead and demo form fillers ✅ People who clicked on your ads ✅ Video watchers ✅ Social media page visitors ✅ Specific product page visitors ✅ Existing customers (for upselling, cross-selling, or further education) ✅ Anyone who has taken a custom action By using retargeting, you can increase your lead-to-sale conversion, speed up your sales cycle, make your brand appear omnipresent, and fine-tune your messaging based on where people are in your pipeline and their previous interactions. Retargeting ads on platforms like Meta, LinkedIn, Bing, Google Display, and AdRoll are highly effective at: ✅ Reducing sales cycle length ✅ Increasing lead-to-sale conversion ✅ Upselling existing customers For example, once someone applies to SaasRise and is accepted, we show them a short 30-second video from me (on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) encouraging them to start their two-week free trial of our community. This can be shot with an iPhone. The more informal, real, and authentic, the better. To optimize your sales cycle conversion and revenue growth, we recommend allocating about 5%-15% of your total ad budget to retargeting ads. These ads create a sense of omnipresence for your brand, guiding prospects through the AIDA funnel (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) and enhancing their journey from engagement to conversion. #Retargeting #DigitalMarketing #SalesFunnel #B2B #SaaS #MarketingStrategy #AdTech #LeadGeneration #SaasRise In the next post of this ongoing series on digital ads for B2B SaaS companies, I will dive into the third category: Matched Audience Ads (Meta, LinkedIn, Google Display, Bing, Adroll) Interested in joining or learning more? Making Digital Ads Profitable (Part 6) Welcome back to our digital ads series for B2B SaaS companies! Over the past few weeks, I have discussed setting up ad tracking and determining your initial test budget. In this sixth installment of our ongoing series, I will dive into the first category of the six key ad channels. Category 1: Paid Search Ads - Google & Bing When it comes to paid search ads on Google and Bing, effective keyword management is key to optimizing your campaigns. Here are four essential keyword groupings to bid on, each with its own campaign for better tracking and scaling: 1️⃣ Branded Terms - Focus on your company name and product names (e.g., SaasRise). This helps capture high-intent searches directly related to your brand. 2️⃣ Comparison Terms - Target searches comparing your brand to others (e.g., SaasRise vs. SaaS Academy). This can help you attract users who are in the decision-making phase. 3️⃣ Competitor Terms - Bid on names of competing and adjacent products (e.g., SaaS Academy). This strategy aims to capture the attention of users exploring alternatives. 4️⃣ Intent Terms - Target keywords that potential leads use when searching for solutions you offer (e.g., SaaS CEO Community). This aligns your ads with users actively looking for what you provide. Be sure to be very careful with restricting paid search campaigns to only display in the countries/regions/locations where you want them to. Many times I’ve seen 90% of a search budget optimized based on clicks or leads wasted by Google showing ads globally in lower cost areas when my main target market was in the USA/CAN/UK/AUS. #DigitalAds #AdCampaigns #MarketingTips #AdStrategy #B2BSaaS #PPC #PaidSearch #MarketingStrategy #AdManagement #GoogleAds #BingAds #KeywordManagement #BrandedTerms #IntentTerms #ComparisonTerms #CompetitorTerms #SaasRise #SearchMarketing #PaidSearchStrategyAd In the next post of this ongoing series on digital ads for B2B SaaS companies, I will dive into the second channel: Retargeting Ads (Meta, LinkedIn, Google Display, Bing, AdRoll). Making Digital Ads Profitable (Part 5) In part five of our digital ads series for B2B SaaS companies, I explore how to determine your initial ads budget. To budget for initial tests, multiply your CAC target by 2-3 per channel to secure 2-3 customers/channel. Aim for 10-20 leads/channel for CPL and Cost Per Sales Qualified Lead (CPSQL) calculations. For instance, with a $5,000 CAC and $500 CPL, allocate $10,000/channel to ensure robust results. Initial setup and tracking take 2-4 weeks, followed by 60-90 days for meaningful results, shorter for SMBs. Testing ad campaigns varies significantly between SMBs and large enterprises due to differing customer acquisition costs (CAC) and sales cycle lengths. SMBs, with lower CACs and quicker conversion times (weeks), contrast sharply with enterprise sales cycles that span months. Shorter sales cycles expedite obtaining cost-effective test results. High ACV firms may spend $200,000 on ads to achieve statistical significance, focusing on CPL optimization initially. The testing process often spans 4-5 months, optimizing channels like Google Search, retargeting (Google Display, Meta, LinkedIn), and Meta Customer Lookalike Ads. Simultaneously testing multiple channels can quickly identify effective strategies, preventing premature conclusions about ad effectiveness. Optimization focuses on channels delivering low CPLs and CACs. Here’s an example recommended initial allocation by ad type. Something along these lines is a good place to start. ✅ Paid Search Ads - 30% ✅ Retargeting Ads - 15% ✅ Matched Audience Ads - 15% ✅ Lookalike ads - 15% ✅ Review Site Ads - 15% ✅ Social Content Boosting Ads - 10% Now that we know how to set up ad tracking and how to think about the initial test budget, next we go through each of the six major ad channels. You can join our community for SaaS CEOs and Founders with $1M to $100M in ARR on SaasRise.com. Share your experiences in setting up your initial test budget in the comments below. #DigitalAdBudget #B2BSaaSAds #CACandCPL #AdTestingStrategies #LeadGeneration #AdCampaignOptimization #AdSpendTips #SaaSMarketing #AdBudgeting #MarketingROI #PerformanceMarketing #PaidSearchAds #RetargetingAds #LookalikeAudiences #SocialMediaAds #AdCampaignInsights #CustomerAcquisitionCost #MarketingStrategy #B2BMarketing #DigitalMarketing #SaasRise
