A Family of Schools for all Families
About us
Located deep in the heart of the Alamo City for more than 100 years, San Antonio ISD is Bexar County’s third-largest school district, serving more than 45,000 students. Because SAISD recognizes that education is not a "one size fits all" package, we offer more choices than any other Bexar County-area school district for students to pursue special interests and career goals, as well as learning environments that best meet their individual needs. We offer a wide variety of programs, including dual-language and bilingual, career exploration and college-preparation. Along with traditional school models, we also offer academies comprising non-traditional grade ranges such as PK-8. Non-boundary choices include 13 magnet programs and 20 specialized schools with diverse areas of focus and innovative methods of instruction. Unique to SAISD are the city’s only public Montessori school, only public all-girls and all-boys schools, only 100 percent dual-language school, and the only District to offer the renowned international baccalaureate program at the elementary, middle and high school levels. SAISD employees enjoy opportunities in a wide variety of settings. We offer competitive salaries, low-cost health benefits and a dual pension plan - Social Security and TRS (Teacher Retirement System of Texas). Come join us at SAISD where we are changing lives one student at a time.

In this KLRN On the Record episode, hear directly from Superintendent Jaime Aquino on his professional development coach, which was provided at no cost to the district. Learn also about the insights he brings back to SAISD when he travels to opportunities such as The Holdsworth Center’s Superintendent Leadership Program, which was designed to help new superintendents meet State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) requirements, the grant-funded and required trips at part of a Wallace Foundation grant, and conferences that include collaboration with other inner city superintendents. Gain insight into how he’s leveraging this knowledge to benefit the children and staff of SAISD.

For Maricela Alarcon, Ed.D., coming to CAST Med and CAST Imagine this year was really a homecoming. The south side native and graduate of Brackenridge High School has a 10-minute commute down Military Drive from her home to the schools’ shared site, which is another 10 minutes from where she grew up in the Lone Star area, allowing her to attend Briscoe Elementary and Harris Middle Schools. “I’m a Southsider,” Alarcón said. “The reason I got my doctorate and the reason I serve as principal on the south side is that I want my students to know that no matter where you come from and who you are, you can accomplish anything in life as long as you have ganas — the will, the grit, the determination.” (CLICK BELOW TO READ MORE) #saisd #saisdproud #saisdalumni #saisdfamiia #principal #educator #schools #schoolleaders

In early November, a handful of San Antonio school leaders will make their way to Washington, D.C., to celebrate the designation of Robert B. Green Elementary at Riverside Park as a Blue Ribbon school — the only campus in the City of San Antonio to earn the coveted designation this year. The school joins only 356 others across the country to earn the honor given by the U.S. Department of Education, 31 of which are in Texas. The Blue Ribbon designation is given to the highest performing schools across the nation as well as those with high levels of improvement. Wafting into the hallway of the Edison Fine Arts building each Tuesday and Thursday morning are the sounds of pure joy. The strong foundation of the bajo quinto and the bright clear notes of the accordion slide out the door and down the stairwell, beckoning visitors to come and see the origin of the music. The origin is Joey Villanueva’s Conjunto class, where Conjunto Los Dorados practices for public performances, contests, and other opportunities to share that joy. The program, in its second year, is a dream come true for Villanueva, who grew up watching his dad play accordion for Conjunto Soliz. He remembers riding around in a carrier at Conjunto Festivals at Rosedale Park, Comanche Park, Mission County Park, Market Square and other venues. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In the SAISD Police Department, our officers and civilian staff wear pink to raise awareness about the importance of prevention and routine screening for early diagnosis. “For us, it’s really important to show our support as a police department,” Lt. Christina Houston said. “It gives us the opportunity to share our support for survivors, for fighters and those who are here supporting those who are dealing with this awful disease. We just want everybody to be healthy and feel supported and know that we are there with them in the fight.” #saisd #saisdfamilia #saisdPD #nationalbreastcancerawarenessmonth #wearpink #womenshealth #support

Early voting starts Monday, and one St. Philip's Early College High School student is getting ready to have a front-row seat for the election. Junior Jeremiah Garza will be returning as a paid student election clerk, where he will greet voters and help them sign in, scan their IDs, and help them get situated with a polling machine to cast their votes. Connected through Youth Do Vote, Garza worked the local election in May and is now returning to work the presidential election next month. Not yet old enough to vote, Garza's experiences have already taught him plenty about the responsibility of this civic duty. "I think it is important for people to vote because you get to learn about the different candidates, their backgrounds, and what benefits they will have and what the downsides are," Garza said. "You need to pick someone who can shape the future into a greater future." #saisd #saisdfamilia #electionyear #voting #students #civicengagement

More than 200 Harris Middle School seventh graders were in Austin yesterday visiting the Bullock Museum as the official kickoff of the Texas History Adventure. A new partnership between the SAISD Foundation, the Battle of Flowers® Association and the San Antonio ISD Social Studies Department, the program aims to highlight the connection between the state’s rich history and civic engagement, and deepen understanding of the lands, people and events that have shaped Texas through experiential learning outside the classroom. The program, which will benefit more than 1,100 seventh graders this year across nine middle schools and academies, was announced at a pep rally at Harris Tuesday. "This trip to the Bullock Museum is more than just a field trip," Helen Eversberg, president of the Battle of Flowers Assocation said. "It's a chance to go outside the walls of their classrooms to connect the past with the present and inspire the next generation of Texans to appreciate and contribute to their state's legacy." #saisd #saisdproud #saisdfamilia #middleschool #texashistory #museum #austin #schoolfieldtrip #texashistoryadventure
