During this morning's exercise, SRP crews built a 105-foot tower and practiced installing transmission cables on the structure. This training helps prepare our crews to safely and quickly restore power. While transmission towers are incredibly resilient to wind and weather events, damage does sometimes happen. If a tower cannot be quickly repaired, SRP will build temporary Lindsey towers to hold the transmission lines until the permanent tower can be repaired or replaced. Hear more about our commitment to the reliability of our system from Robert Trevillyan, Transmission Line Maintenance Supervisor, SRP:

In response to our 2023 All Source Request for Proposals, we’ve selected the Signal Butte project to join our grid in 2026, in partnership with Aypa Power. Signal Butte will hold 250 MW of energy, enough to power over 50,000 homes for a four-hour period. Energy from our battery systems would typically be discharged in the early evening, when demand is highest and solar resources are not available.
