Should brands sell Merch? 🤔 If your answer is "Absolutely! We want more walking billboards!" you're doing it wrong. Creating trendy and "on-brand" merchandise is no simple feat. On top of that, it can be a massive distraction from an emerging brand's core business (trust me on this). Some categories, like beer and spirits, are tailor-made for merch. But why don't you see people wearing Heinz Ketchup t-shirts? People love that brand! Here’s the brand merchandise conundrum: Brands want loyal ambassadors who proudly sport their logos, but you first need to offer something worth wearing to get those ambassadors. It's a bit of a "chicken vs. egg" scenario. So when should a brand offer merch? Let's look at Duke's Mayonnaise as a brand that's getting it right. Their new "Duke’s Country" seamlessly integrates unique merch into a broader brand strategy. Here’s how Duke's got it right: Dukes understands the Role: Duke’s knows their merch needs to be quirky and fun – after all, it’s promoting a mayonnaise brand! Duke's Knows their Audience: They get that their fans are hardcore, and that's clearly who they are targeting. Strategic Integration: This isn't just about "walking billboards." The new Duke's Country campaign is all about building a passionate community of Duke’s enthusiasts who want to literally fly their Duke's flag and the merch empowers them to do this. So, if you’re contemplating merch for your brand, take a page from Duke's playbook. Make sure your strategy aligns with your brand’s identity and is more than a half-hearted attempt to have "walking billboards." What are your thoughts on brand merch? Share your experiences or examples of brands that nailed it (or missed the mark)! 👇 #Branding #MarketingStrategy #ConsumerEngagement #BrandLoyalty

Today, Duke’s Mayo launched its new brand campaign – Welcome To Duke’s Country. Duke's Mayo isn't just a jar. It's a place. A place where friends and family can enjoy a good meal. Where rivals can put aside their differences and put down some ribs at the tailgate. Where you can be yourself, even if that means a back tattoo or using a jar as an urn. And if you love mayo, you're in the right place. Welcome to Duke’s Country. Learn more at dukescountry.com.
