A new bridge on SC 124 over Georges Creek in Pickens County opened to vehicle traffic on Sunday, July 7, following a bridge replacement project. Construction of the new bridge took just under a year and was completed on schedule.

A new bridge on US 301 southbound over the South Edisto River in Orangeburg County is now open to traffic. Crews are now working to complete the project, which includes paving and placement of pavement markings on this stretch of highway. As crews finish up construction this month, SCDOT asks drivers to use caution and to look out for temporary lane closures in both directions.

Yesterday SCDOT opened the third northbound lane on I-85 from mile marker 80 to mile marker 90. This project is part of the I-85 Widening and Improvement Project. SCDOT appreciates the patience of the traveling public and especially the residents of Cherokee and Spartanburg counties as we work to complete this project. Drivers in this area should use caution as crews work to put final pavement markings in place.

The Hardscrabble Road Project in Richland County reached a new milestone last week. All four travel lanes and the two-way center turn lane were fully opened to traffic on a newly widened 1.5-mile section of Hardscrabble Road between Farrow Road and Crane Creek. SCDOT continues to make progress toward completing improvements along all 8 miles of the Hardscrabble Road Project by spring 2025.

SCDOT has been working to replace the bridge on US 17A/21 over the railroad track at the Beaufort and Hampton county line. Construction has begun and is on track to be complete by this fall. Earlier this week, crews worked to put in place 5 beams over the railroad. Each beam weighs 60 tons and is 122 feet long.
