About us

What School Could Be is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a robust collection of resources for educators interested in innovative practices and placing students at the center of their learning. Educators have endured endless top-down edicts that they have no voice in and don’t believe in. We believe in educators— in their power to take small steps that lead to big change. We support educators in their journey through our online community of tens of thousands of members, providing free professional development resources including courses, events, our Innovation Playlist, coaching, and connection to educators involved in this work all over the world. We also partner with others to provide micro-credentialing, an affordable Master’s degree program, and bespoke coaching services for schools and districts that are leading for change.

It is so so so very important to share our process and stories of what school could be with each other. Without sharing our journey with the world, like Aaron Schorn does 👇 , it is impossible for other educators to imagine a different way of doing school. Interested in joining the conversation? Sitting at the intersection of education, youth empowerment, and joyful learning

The central question I work on at Unrulr and the focus of my collaborations with people a helluva lot smarter than myself is: "How do we shift from passive to active in our education?" I'll be at Aurora Institute's Symposium at a pop-up table Monday November 4th from 2-4 pm with some incredible educator friends showcasing what makes Unrulr such a powerful tool in the world of portfolios and learner-centered documentation. On Tuesday at 8:30 am i'll be co-leading a workshop with your favorite school leader's favorite school leaders. I'm there to amplify Bill and Madison of Cañon City High School and to share out what happens when schools create a culture of documentation and reflection with their students.

🌍✨ Exciting Innovations in Education! ✨🌱 This school year, I introduced my 5th-grade SAUSD students to VR technology while studying Earth’s Water and Interconnected Systems in PLTW. This immersive experience took our learning to the next level! Imagine this: students transporting themselves inside a plant to explore the fascinating process of photosynthesis! 🌿💡 The ability to visualize complex concepts in a virtual environment not only captivates their imagination but also deepens their understanding. With this technology, my students are no longer passive learners; they become explorers, engaging with the material in a way that encourages curiosity and critical thinking. It’s amazing to see their eyes light up as they navigate through the intricate systems of nature! I’m thrilled to integrate such innovative tools into my teaching practice, empowering young minds to grasp challenging ideas while having fun. The future of education is bright, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us!🌍🚀  #EdTech #VRinEducation #ProjectLeadTheWay #STEM #InnovationInTeaching #WEareSAUSD #SAUSDBetterTogether #SAUSDGraduatedProfile #SAUSD #duallanguage  #UCIrvine #pltwproud #PLTW

There’s something about entrepreneurship I never saw coming—and it hit me right in the middle of my FIRST podcast interview. First, a massive shoutout to Josh Reppun for not only having me on the What School Could Be podcast but also for throwing me off balance with some really thoughtful questions (in the best way possible). From the moment we started, I knew I was in for an exciting conversation. One of my favorite highlights? Having my mentor, Hannah Grady Williams 🛸🏴☠️, join as the co-host. We peeled back the layers of what it really means to grow as an entrepreneur, especially as a 17-year-old trying to balance opportunity with self-awareness. Seeing all the work I’ve done on myself come to life in real-time feels surreal. And considering that it's only been around six months since my journey started, it's all happening incredibly fast. The "great" news? Hannah reminded me that the pressure (and even slight imposter syndrome) that you feel as life starts to fall into place, doesn't really go away, it just evolves. (HOW FUN!) In the limited time we had, we touched on everything we could —from why the education system needs rethinking to what external pressure feels like as a young entrepreneur. Mark your calendars—the episode drops this Sunday 🎧 Most importantly, Mahalo to the incredible team behind What School Could Be and Josh Reppun for having me, to Hannah Grady Williams 🛸🏴☠️ for co-hosting, and to Jon Pennington, PhD for keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. I couldn’t have asked for a better first podcast experience. #Podcast #Entrepreneurship #WhatSchoolCouldBe #FirstPodcast #OptivizeMedia
