At LLR, our day is all about you. Did you know that in some way we touch your life every day? We license your doctor, your dentist, the person who built your home, the engineer and architect who planned and designed the building you work in or visit, the cosmetologist and barber who cut your hair, and so many others through our Division of Professional and Occupational Licensing. We train firefighters who respond to your emergencies. We visit your home, your community, your place of worship, and your schools to help educate you and your loved ones on how to be fire safe. And we inspect those public buildings you visit - all through State Fire - our Division of Fire and Life Safety. We work with your employers to help them provide a safe and healthy worksite for you and your co-workers through our Division of SC OSHA. We work with you and your employer when you have not been paid for the work you performed through our Office of Wages and Child Labor. We inspect amusement rides and elevators through our Office of Elevators and Amusement Rides so that you will have a safe riding experience. And we work with employers through the Office of Immigration Compliance to make sure they are using E-verify to check if their employees are authorized to work in the United States. The South Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association (SCATA) hosted its annual symposium on July 10-12, 2024, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. During the event, Bob Horner, LLR’s Chief Advice Counsel, received the SCATA President’s Award, given to an individual who is not an athletic trainer but has contributed to advancing the athletic training profession in South Carolina. SCATA President Amy Fraley presented Bob with the award, acknowledging that Bob was “immensely helpful” in facilitating the transition of athletic training regulation from DHEC to LLR and stating “what made this so successful is because we had somebody in a position who knew that communication matters, that athletic training matters, and that the regulation of athletic training matters.” During his acceptance speech, Bob was quick to recognize the hard work of others on the LLR team, especially Jessica Beise, Board Executive for the S.C. Board of Medical Examiners, who guided South Carolina’s athletic trainers through the application process to complete the transition from certification by DHEC to licensure by LLR. #athletictraining #SCATA
