Is Your Business Missing Out on the Next Big Sustainability Investment? At Seatrees, we're on a mission to turn ocean conservation into a powerful, scalable business strategy, and leading brands are taking notice. In the latest episode of The Sustainability Experts podcast, our co-founder Kevin Whilden dives into how our innovative $1 = 1 mangrove tree-planted model has attracted partners like Virgin Voyages, Bank of the West, and WeTransfer. But that’s just the beginning, our next big move into biodiversity credits is set to redefine corporate sustainability. Key insights from our conversation: * Why the ocean holds the key to carbon sequestration - and why it's drastically underfunded * How leading brands are leveraging conservation to protect assets, mitigate climate risks, and enhance customer loyalty * What businesses need to know about biodiversity credits - a $2 billion market poised for explosive growth * The real reason most conservation initiatives fail - and how companies can avoid greenwashing If your business is looking to align sustainability goals with measurable impact and financial returns, this episode is a must-listen. 🌍✨ 🎧 Tune in now! Seatrees restores coastal ecosystems to boost biodiversity, support local communities, and reverse climate change.
About us
Seatrees directly supports communities and scientists who protect and regenerate blue-carbon coastal ecosystems. Blue carbon is the most effective way to draw carbon out of the atmosphere and permanently sequester it. Seatrees works with communities around the world to plant and protect mangrove and kelp forests, seagrass, ridge-to-reef watersheds, and coral reefs. Our projects do a lot more than sequester carbon. We measure our impact with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The regeneration and protection of these ecosystems provides critical habitat for countless species, sustainable long-term employment for local communities, and protects those communities from storm surges and sea-level rise. Seatrees is an ocean-focused platform for people and brands to take direct action on climate change. There are many different ways to support the blue carbon projects on the Seatrees platform, and then tell that story to others. Our Vision: We believe the ocean has the superpower to reverse climate change, but we need to help by protecting and restoring blue carbon ecosystems. There's no time to waste – the global scientific consensus is clear that we have the next 10 years to reduce our collective carbon footprint. On Earth Day 2021 we announced our first major Seatrees milestone 1 Million SeaTrees planted. We're working hard to find quality new projects where we can work together to plant the next Million SeaTrees. Longer-term, our goal is to support 100 blue-carbon projects in threatened coastal ecosystems by 2030, in-turn becoming a global leader in developing blue-carbon projects.

A few years ago, I used to get one call per week from someone looking to invest in making carbon credits from kelp forests. But wild kelp forests are probably the hardest ecosystem to quantify carbon sequestration to the level of scientific accuracy needed for a credible carbon offset. It is such a wild and dynamic ecosystem compared to stoic terrestrial ecosystems. So Seatrees started a research project with Dr. Jen Smith at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography to conduct the key science needed to quantify the climate benefit of kelp forests (if any). Today, we released a video on this water-parting work that seeks to answer the most challenging problems in carbon flux through kelp forests.
Can kelp forests help reverse climate change? Our new Seatrees documentary, Kelp Currency, dives into groundbreaking research with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography to uncover the true climate potential of wild kelp forests. Kelp has long been a vital part of ocean ecosystems, but its ability to capture and store carbon could make it a game-changer in the fight against climate change. Despite their immense value, kelp forests remain critically underfunded. This film highlights the urgent need to invest in research that could unlock carbon finance for large-scale kelp restoration. With some areas of California losing up to 90% of their kelp forests, the time to act is now. Watch Kelp Currency now and learn how we can protect and restore the ocean’s forests. At Seatrees, we’re always exploring cutting-edge solutions to restore and protect marine ecosystems. One powerful tool making waves in conservation is large-area imagery, or photogrammetry: a technique that creates 3D models of underwater environments. This technology is helping scientists track coral health, monitor restoration progress, and make marine conservation more accessible than ever. In a recent webinar with the Nature Tech Collective, our Science Lead, Dr. Orion McCarthy, shared insights into how photogrammetry is transforming reef conservation, including its use in our coral restoration project in Bali. Dive into the full blog to learn more about this game-changing tech and how we can make it accessible to all: 👉 Read the full blog: Revolutionizing Marine Conservation with Photogrammetry & Ensuring Access for All: https://lnkd.in/gjzH7kHv
