Non-invasive #imaging of soil-plant continuum processes, such as root and soil water distributions, can be used to optimize agricultural practices. This presentation from #SEG #NearSurface will show the how in-situ time-lapse horizontal crosshole ground penetrating radar (#GPR) and root images can be linked. Data collected for maize growing seasons in Germany is used, where root development and GPR permittivity were monitored at six depths across different treatments and soil types. 𝑰𝑴𝑨𝑮𝑬2024 was an incredible experience! This year's meeting exceeded my expectations and ranks among the best opportunities I've had in the past three years. I'm incredibly grateful to the SEG foundation and Chevron for providing me with the opportunity to participate in the 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦 (𝑺𝑳𝑺). The experience was invaluable, and I learned so much about leadership skills and commitment to earth science from the Chevron team. Meeting 38 𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 from around the world with diverse cultures, skills, and ideas was inspiring. We formed lifelong connections and had a blast learning from each other. I believe we can work together in the future to benefit our planet and even explore other worlds. To everyone I met at 𝑰𝑴𝑨𝑮𝑬2024, please tag anyone I might have missed or not yet connected with. This post will serve as a record of our connections so we can easily find each other again. A special thanks to Jessica Dostal, Sarah Castro and Annabella Betancourt for their incredible work in organizing this event. Their professionalism and dedication made this experience truly exceptional for all the students participating. We also had a fantastic time presenting our research from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi 𝑮𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒔 𝒍𝒂𝒃 professor Mohamed Ahmed, and my great friend Fulbright Associatio scholar Dr. Amir Ismail, Ph.D. and Yusuf Azeez. I had great discussions and learning from Michael Forrest and Rocky Detomo it was a pleasure seeing you and learning from your experience. #IMAGE2024 Alexander Cordero Baraa Osman Chatchai Karapong Fathia Seivita Zahirani Ahmed M. It was great seeing you at #IMAGE24! See you next year!
Ever wondered what to wear to a conference like #IMAGE24? Ethan Penner and I demonstrate with a viral TikTok trend! - We want first-time attendees to know they don’t have to wear a suit or anything fancy to conferences… Even in a professional setting like this, many geoscientists wear jeans, flannels, or even hiking boots! Go with what’s comfortable and speaks volumes about who you are professionally and personally—For us, that’s dressing real groovy 😎 - Here are some tips we learned from attending IMAGE’23 that helped us better prepare for this year: 👞 Shoe comfort is SO important! Put gel inserts in everything and ladies, definitely go for a shorter, wider heel. Ethan opted for Blundstone boots that are a popular go-to for both men AND women geoscientists. 🌡️ Despite the event taking place in hot, humid Houston, the convention center is kept cool, so wearing long pants and even a blazer or cardigan is totally doable. The key is to layer! 👕 It’s so easy to keep it simple with a few staple items you can mix and match, like button downs or jeans that go with everything. No need to pack tons of extravagant items, like we both did last year… lesson learned! - I won’t tell you what a lot of people tell women, that “it’s not a fashion show” because it can be if you want it to! Conferences are a great place to put yourself out there and be expressive of who you are and what you can offer as a professional, but remember to stay comfy because the days are looooong 😅 - SEG & American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) #geoscientist #conferenceattire #scienceconference #businesscasual #outfitinspiration

Sign up now for the 5th SEG Latin American Virtual Student Conference. The conference will take place 10–11 October 2024 and is a FREE event organized by the SEG Latin America Regional Advisory Committee. It is open to all final year undergraduate, Masters, and PhD students studying at Latin American universities. Students who have not yet been able to present at a major conference but would like to share their work are encouraged to attend. Equally it is a great opportunity for more experienced students to present within their network. Presentations are limited to students studying at Latin American universities. There is an increasing need to develop new #geophysical tools in near shore #marine environments. This need concerns geophysical imaging for marine #renewable #energy or more generally for geological studies. #Acoustic and #seismic techniques do not always perform well in this environment. #Electromagnetic (EM) imaging is a powerful alternate method that is much underused in nearshore near surface investigations. This webinar presents academic and industry case studies and new applications from #renewable energy and #offshore #groundwater investigations. Presenter Pascal Tarits is Professor of #Geophysics at the University of Western Brittany in France.

#SocietyofExplorationGeophysicists #SEGLARAC
