"Don't let the fear stop you. Achieve early. A lot of people in the able-bodied world will tell you to wait ... Most of the time, I think it's because they're afraid that if something doesn't go right for you, you will fall apart. I say to you, do things early." -Michael Rogers, a prominent self-advocate in Buffalo and Regional Organizer for the Self Advocacy Association of New York State https://buff.ly/46cc1t3

Let’s celebrate the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 34th Anniversary! The ADA works to ensure all people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. Services for the UnderServed #ADA34 #ThanksToTheADA

S:US is proud to support the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 34th Anniversary. On July 26, we celebrate this important civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in all areas of life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. We honor and celebrate the diversity of people with disabilities – those with physical, intellectual/developmental disabilities, people with mental illness, and those with undiagnosed disabilities. We are dedicated to helping people lead their best lives by creating opportunities for meaningful relationships, full integration into the community, and personal growth. Let's commemorate the ADA by continuing to advocate for a world where everyone, regardless of ability, can thrive and participate fully in society. Together, we can build a future that is inclusive, accessible, and supportive for all. #ADA34 #ThanksToTheADA

From building affordable and supportive housing for people who have been homeless, including veterans, to healthy food distribution programs in underserved communities, to health clinics serving people with mental health and substance challenges -- none of it would be possible without the support of our funders and generous donors, which now includes S:UStainers. Please join the growing group of S:UStainers by making a gift of $1 a day, or a recurring donation of any amount. Together, let's build a brighter future for New Yorkers in need.

S:US is proud to share that we have successfully closed on the acquisition of four pre-war tenements in Hell’s Kitchen. With our partners, SMJ Development and High Point Property Group, we plan to fully update and renovate the building, preserving homes for the 11 existing rent-stabilized tenants while converting the remaining 69 units into affordable housing for homeless families under a CityFHEPS rental assistance contract.

Services for the UnderServed reposted this
As many of you know, Services for the UnderServed created a new fundraising initiative earlier this year called “S:UStainers.” Participants help sustain our critical services and programming which allows us to serve more than 37,000 of New York’s most vulnerable individuals and families each year. From building affordable and supportive housing for people who have been homeless, including veterans, to healthy food distribution programs in underserved communities, to health clinics serving people with mental health and substance challenges -- none of it would be possible without the support of our funders and generous donors, which now includes S:UStainers. I would especially like to thank the members of our Board of Directors – including Earl Brown JoAnn Sacks Deborah Wolfe, Art Edwards Marie Isabelle Palacios-Hardy Carolyn Powell Linda Nguyen Larry Hamdan Gail McCallion Jen Press Marden John A. McKesson Amelia Brewer Joshua Liston Erin Felker Bond Peter R. Lattanzio Ed Hubbard Josh Bider – who have supported this initiative and have engaged with their networks to encourage S:UStainer participation to support our vital cause. Your generosity ensures that our dedicated staff is equipped with the tools they need to carry out their important work. Together, we’re building a brighter future for New Yorkers in need. If you would like to learn more about S:UStainers and/or would like to participate, please visit https://lnkd.in/e3sYgdq5.
