Strategic Communications Leader for Climate Solutions

It's hard to believe that Climatebase #Cohort6 is almost over! So much great information so far and even better people! One of the recent standout discussions for me recently focused on nature-based climate solutions with Jason Cremerius of SPUN | Society for the Protection of Underground Networks, Valerie Kapos of UNEP-WCMC, and Leonardo Valenzuela Pérez, PhD, of Ocean Visions. Here's what struck me most: The future of climate action isn't just green – it's blue, brown, and every shade in between. 🌊🌳 1. Breaking silos isn't optional anymore. When Dr. Valerie Kapos spoke about integrating economic models with ecological principles, it hit home: we need bridges, not barriers, between sectors. 2. Indigenous wisdom + scientific research = powerful solutions. This combination is creating conservation strategies that actually work, because they're rooted in both data AND generational knowledge. 3. The tech industry has a crucial role to play. As Jason Cremerius highlighted, innovative funding mechanisms are key to scaling these solutions. Silicon Valley, are you listening? 💡 🎯 The bottom line: Nature-based solutions aren't just "nice to have" – they're essential for our survival AND economic resilience. Do you know of organizations incorporating nature-based solutions into their sustainability strategy or have thoughts on how companies can better use nature based solutions? Let's share ideas below. 👇 #ClimateAction #Sustainability #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateChange #Innovation #Leadership #latepost

In honor of #IndigenousPeoplesDay at SF Climate Week we’re reflecting on some of the Indigenous voices who shared their perspectives. One standout event was the California Native Homeland Festival organized by the Exploratorium, in partnership with the Association of Ramaytush Ohlone] and the American Indian Cultural District SF. The festival was a sharing of Indigenous artistic and cultural practices that come from deep traditions knowing and living with the California landscape. In 2024, the Exploratorium featured several new Indigenous artists, displayed traditional canoes at the Plaza, and facilitated opportunities to connect with canoe makers to learn about their knowledge of both land and water. 📌 The California Native Homeland Festival will be back at SFCW in 2025! Save the date for another great experience at the Exploratorium April 27, 2025 🌿 Want to amplify more Indigenous voices at SFCW 2025? We do too! Join us by organizing an event and sharing your voice. Fill out our Event Organizer Interest Form to get started: (https://lnkd.in/eF6i_piV). When you sign up, you'll get updates, resources, and invitations to info sessions to help you along the way! 💡Learn more about Indigenous tribes from the Bay Area - What is now often called the San Francisco Bay Area is the home of many different tribes. Ohlone are the predominant Indigenous group, including the Chochenyo and the Karkin in East Bay, the Ramaytush in San Francisco, the Yokuts in South Bay and Central Valley, and the Muwekma tribe throughout the region. Other Indigenous groups include the Graton Rancheria community (Coast Miwok and Southern Pomo), Kashaya, Patwin, and Mishewal Wappo in the North Bay, and the Bay Miwok in the East Bay (Source: Bay Area Equity Atlas ➡️ https://lnkd.in/grmRurY We acknowledge that we gather on the unceded ancestral lands of the Ramaytush Ohlone people. Indigenous knowledge and practices are crucial to effective climate solutions, offering time-tested approaches to sustainable land and water management. The festival highlighted how traditional ecological knowledge can inform modern climate action strategies.
