🎉🎉 San Francisco and Berkeley Awarded $20 Million Federal Grant for Building Electrification! 🎉🎉 San Francisco Environment Department, in partnership with City of Berkeley, has been awarded a $19.9 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to advance building electrification projects! This funding, part of the historic Biden-Harris Inflation Reduction Act, will help us with the creation of building performance standards that will modernize large buildings, cut carbon emissions, and move towards a resilient, all-electric future. Under Mayor London Breed’s leadership, San Francisco has already made significant strides in reducing emissions and promoting equitable access to clean energy. Check out my earlier posts about our 48% reduction in emissions from 1990 levels (https://shorturl.at/2t0f5), or the launch of our Climate Equity Hub (https://shorturl.at/UjvOW). This grant will further our goal of eliminating emissions from all buildings by 2040 and create a playbook to help other smaller cities develop their own plans and policies. A big thank you to President Biden and Vice President Harris for their continued investment in a more sustainable equitable, and climate resilient future. And a huge thank you to the SF-Berkeley climate teams that collaborated on this successful grant application: Barry Hooper Cyndy Comerford Ammon Reagan Melissa Fondakowski Charles Sheehan among many, many others. Together, we are setting the stage for a net zero emissions building future in our respective cities, for the Bay Area, and the rest of the nation! 🌍💡 #ClimateAction #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #BuildingElectrification #SanFrancisco #Berkeley #NetZero #buildingdecarbonization #bayarea #zeroemission #alleelectric

🌟🚀 Saying YES to Climate Innovation in San Francisco! 🚀🌟 I was beyond excited to join San Francisco Mayor London Breed and over 100 innovators and supporters as we celebrated the grand opening of the Yes SF headquarters in Downtown SF. This space was over a year in the making and is dedicated to hosting and supporting climate innovators and founders. I’m incredibly proud of how the private, non-profit, and government sectors have come together through YesSF to support eco-innovators. The first cohort of innovators are already catalyzing the technology solutions needed to tackle our global climate challenges and deploying them right here in San Francisco. And we are just getting started with the process to select our second cohort! Yes SF is making a significant impact by: 🌆 Revitalizing Downtown SF: Contributing to economic growth and urban development. 💡 Fostering Innovation: Supporting cutting-edge climate solutions. 🌱 Creating Opportunities: Empowering climate founders and entrepreneurs. 🤝 Building Community: Uniting innovators and supporters, and connecting them to our San Francisco equity and community values. 🌍 Leading in Sustainability: Positioning San Francisco as a global leader in sustainability in policy and innovation. 🏙️ Advancing SF's Climate Action Plan and United Nation's SDG 11: Contributing to sustainable cities and communities. A huge thank you to the leadership of Deloitte, Salesforce, Citi, San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, World Economic Forum UpLink - World Economic Forum San Francisco Environment Department SF Office of Economic & Workforce Development, represented by some of their leaders and friends Jeff Merritt, Rodney Fong, Hydra Mendoza, Paul Clemmons, and your amazing teams of Emily Abraham Kristy Henrich Klein, Sharon Lai (黎慧心), Jenny Hoang, Jenny Feinberg, Mario Zapata Encinas and so so many more that made this event and Yes SF possible! All of you and our innovators are part of demonstrating how San Francisco is leading the way through our inclusive partnerships and strategies to achieve a sustainable, just, and prosperous future for the entire planet. 🌍✨ #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Innovation #SanFrancisco #bayarea #YesSF #EcoInnovators #SDG11 #climatetech 📸 : Mario Zapata Encinas

Director Tyrone Jue 🌎, Deputy Director Leo Chyi, and Commissioners Sarah Wan and Angelique Tompkins, PMP recently visited our grantee, The SF Market to see the dual impacts of reducing #FoodWaste and addressing #FoodInsecurity in action. With a goal of recovering 2,000,000 pounds of food by July 2025, the SF Market has already met 60% of this target within the first year, by recovering food from 17 merchants (106% of the goal) and distributing it to 23 nonprofits (164% of the goal). Part of the grant also funds a full-time staff person at the Market, creating green jobs that further our commitment to sustainability. 🌱👩🌾 #SFProduceMarket #FoodRecovery #Sustainability #GreenJobs #CommunityEmpowerment #ZeroWaste #FoodWasteSolutions
