🚶♂️ 👋 New: The Amazon executive who led its Just Walk Out division has just walked out of the company to join the electric scooter and bike sharing company Lime. The executive, Jon Jenkins, became vice president of Just Walk Out in early 2022. Since then, Amazon has been pulling back from using Just Walk Out in its own stores, including by removing it from dozens of its U.S. Amazon Fresh grocery stores this year and closing Amazon Go stores. An Amazon spokesperson didn't say whether Amazon is naming a replacement for Jenkins, but said that Amazon is still committed to the technology, which is now in over 200 locations operated by other companies in places like stadiums and airports. Read my story on Jenkins' departure The Information: https://lnkd.in/ew2cZr6b And our other coverage of Just Walk Out and Amazon's spotty record in physical stores: https://lnkd.in/e52PR4C4 https://lnkd.in/eeaSkFxs https://lnkd.in/ePEGAEuF https://lnkd.in/erptfekV

WHAT'S NEXT: Learn how Daniel Patricio, CEO of Abra, helps Shopify merchants drive more revenue from discounts. ⁉️ WHAT IS ABRA? Abra helps merchants increase the conversion rate of their Shopify Discounts and functions. We increase revenue by enhancing the customer experience for any promotion a merchant can dream up, removing the need for custom development or landing pages. 💲 ARE YOU FUNDED? No, we're bootstrapped 🤩 WHO DO YOU SERVE? We work with Apparel, Food, Beauty, Jewellery and Supplement brands, many of which are 9 figure brands. 🌟 WHAT'S STANDOUT ABOUT ABRA? My co-founder and I spent 8+ years building Shopify’s early Product and UX teams. We take a lot of pride in being able to help merchants with their stores even if it is outside of what Abra does. ⏭️ WHAT'S NEXT AT ABRA? We have spent the last couple of years making our core storefront functionality and our Shopify functions very powerful. The focus this year has been to build tighter integrations where merchants actually run promotions. The three big ones we are announcing in the coming months are integrations with AfterSell, Tapcart and Social Snowball. We are working closely with the product teams there to make the onboarding experience butter-smooth. We don’t really believe in partnerships where you shake hands just to send each other referrals. You have to build something new, something powerful to get the most out of it. 📈 WHAT'S NEXT IN YOUR NICHE? The Shopify Discounts team is making discounts more programmable and customizable which is very exciting for us. Plus merchants have had access to Shopify Scripts for a while and a lot of merchants used it to build some complex flows that really allowed them to get creative with promotions. However I have seen some messy and crazy things merchants have done in those scripts - not very scalable or usable across merchants. Shopify is moving towards functions, which we use as well to replace scripts. These can be controlled by apps - think like templates of any complex logic and usable just like a discount code created in Shopify. We use this to make robust gift with purchase promotions that are far more dynamic. We can also give more control, allowing merchants to discount 100 collections with 100 discount values all with a single discount code. One with their recently announced APIs is the Discounts Allocator API I can see being really powerful for some of the more complex use cases for larger merchants. You can actually rewrite all of Shopify's logic and rules about which discounts can be combined and how they combine. All of this is lining up to Shopify building for much more complex use cases and as a developer it is awesome to see such fast advancement of the tooling that allows us to unblock the bigger problems for our merchants. ❤️ WHO SHOULD I INTERVIEW NEXT? Adam Doeler from Wrapped, someone who I worked with at Shopify and who has been in the app game longer than me building some great stuff.

WHAT'S NEXT: Learn how Chris Roebuck, CEO of Clicktivated Video, Inc., helps turn any video into a shoppable experience. ⁉️ WHAT IS CLICKTIVATED? Clicktivated creates shoppable videos, connecting viewers to items in real time. Click any product, place, or experience in video to explore or buy instantly. We partner with leading brands in retail and tourism to enhance video engagement and sales. 💲 ARE YOU FUNDED? Yes, we're funded 🤩 WHO DO YOU SERVE? Ideal for brands focused on enhancing their consumer UX, boosting engagement and conversions, and delivering a more valuable viewer experience! 🌟 WHAT'S STANDOUT ABOUT CLICKTIVATED? Clicktivated offers shoppable videos with in-house production, quick activation, & intuitive UX. Our advanced analytics provide detailed engagement insights, helping brands understand their audience. ⏭️ WHAT'S NEXT AT CLICKTIVATED? In Late July, we launched the next generation of our interactive video tech, which includes a game-changing user experience and a new robust analytics suite. The next phase of our platform will give our customers more insights into what individual items/products customers engage with and how that impacts conversions, intent, and interest. For example, if a retailer created a video with 5 or 50 different Clicktivated products, we capture which products were clicked on and how many went ahead and made a purchase. The same goes for other industries, like a tourism company highlighting different attractions, restaurants, or experiences. As for partnerships, we’ve already partnered with top brands across industries, such as retailers like Target, hospitality brands like Visit Palm Springs, and automotive manufacturers such as GMC. Later this summer, we’ll announce even more exciting partnerships, including large agencies, brands, and publishers! 📈 WHAT'S NEXT IN YOUR NICHE? Awareness around the importance of shoppable video continues to expand thanks to the power of video and key advancements in the core technology that powers our industry, AI. My prediction is that AI will continue to impact digital video positively, and we will continue to leverage its power to make our object recognition the most accurate in the market and help create the most impact for our customers. This impact will continue to expand video opportunities to monetize video profoundly, and we’ll see shoppable video become a core part of all marketing strategies for every retailer and DTC brand. Another prediction is that more and more companies will recognize that shoppable video is not just for e-commerce. ❤️ WHO SHOULD I INTERVIEW NEXT? Tobias Lütke - CEO, Shopify Thanks Chris! #ecommerce #retail #tech #business #commerce #shoppablevideos #videocommerce

  • Substack introduces live video streaming to enhance real-time engagement Substack announced the launch of a new live video feature in its app, providing writers and creators with a dynamic tool to engage their audience in real time. The rollout comes as more publishers use Substack to connect with their subscribers while covering breaking news, hosting discussions, and sharing live updates through the platform’s Chat feature. With the introduction of live video, Substack aims to meet growing demand for richer, more interactive content. Writers can now host live sessions directly from the app, instantly notifying their subscribers when they go live. The new feature allows creators to share live-breaking news, behind-the-scenes footage, exclusive events, or even interactive “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) sessions. For those seeking to create exclusive content, live videos can be paywalled, offering special access to paid subscribers. Substack also encourages creators to explore the potential of live collaboration. By inviting fellow writers to join live broadcasts, creators can expand their reach and grow their subscriber base through shared audiences. These collaborations, already popular among Substack writers, are expected to boost engagement through live streaming as well. Currently, live video streaming is available to Substack bestsellers on both iOS and Android platforms, with plans to extend the feature to all users in the coming months. Writers who aren't yet bestsellers can request early access to this feature as Substack continues to roll out new improvements and features in the near future. Substack’s live video feature marks another step in the platform’s evolution as a go-to resource for creators seeking to engage and grow their audiences in new and meaningful ways.
