In a beautiful and moving ceremony yesterday, Premier Suburban Medical Group in Orland Park dedicated its gorgeous outdoor garden and gathering space to the memory of former Silver Cross President/CEO Ruth Colby. The Ruth Colby Memorial Garden features beautiful flowers and shrubs, an elegant fountain, seating space and more. PSMG providers and staff, Silver Cross executives, including President/CEO Michael Mutterer, and Ruth’s husband Don and son David took part in yesterday’s dedication under perfect sunny skies. Ruth loved to be outdoors as much as she could be, and we know she’d be in awe of how lovely this garden space turned out. Ruth was instrumental in bringing the new Orland Park Medical Pavilion to life, and her vision for this vibrant location can be seen in the building design as well as the pavilion’s full array of healthcare services. As we all soak in the greenery, the flowers, the fountain and the wonderful escape this garden provides, we will remember Ruth’s warmth, her sunny personality, her sense of fun and most of all, her commitment to quality healthcare for everyone.

Because hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy often requires daily treatments, our staff develops close relationships with our patients, supporting and comforting them throughout their wound care journey. This truly makes a difference for our patients. #SilverCrossProud #RememberingRuth Earlier today, New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann and other New Lenox officials joined us at the honorary renaming of Silver Cross Boulevard to Ruth Colby Boulevard. Also present were Ruth's husband Don and son David as well as members of our Medical Staff and Leadership teams. Thank you to Mayor Baldermann, the Village of New Lenox, the New Lenox Board of Trustees and New Lenox Public Works for making this special tribute possible! This busy intersection serves as the main entrance to our bustling hospital campus, but it’s so much more than that. Ruth Colby Memorial Boulevard signifies health, hope and healing to all who pass this way. Her visionary leadership touched every corner of Silver Cross Hospital and our beautiful campus from the time she joined our organization in 2005 until her untimely passing last October. Ruth, you deserve this lasting recognition so that everyone who enters our campus is reminded of the powerful impact you made in the lives of all who seek our care.

We love man’s best friend here at Silver Cross! Our pet therapy program isn’t just a highlight for patients, but also for staff when we see our four-legged colleagues rounding around the hospital. Pet therapy can have many benefits including improved mood, lowering blood pressure, and reducing loneliness. If you have a dog that is certified with Therapy Dogs International, and you’re interested in becoming part of our pet therapy program please call our Volunteer Services Department at 815-300-7579. 🐶🐕❤

Our cardiac catherization lab was looking for an opportunity to help our community! So they chose to collect donations to make to Guardian Angel, a local organization that provides services in Joliet. They collected over $550, which was used to purchase items including diapers, dish soap, hand soap, clothing, women’s hygiene products, games for children, cleaning supplies and more! ❤️ ❤️

When a patient was brought in by ambulance and admitted to the 5th floor, he and his wife quickly felt reassured knowing Gabriela Martinez, CNA, 5:1, was there when they needed her. "We were lucky not to hit the 'we need a nurse NOW' point, mainly because Gaby was there," wrote the patient's wife. "If only to pop her head in and ask if we needed anything, just to let us know when we did, if we did, she would be nearby." "Gaby is caring and careful. My husband was bleeding a lot, and we didn't know why. Gaby showed concern and seemed to know my husband needed assurance and comfort. Her smile and frequent 'pop her head in' helped us both feel we were being attended to. Gaby was gentle and kind. She was super busy, yet still able to help make us feel we were a concern." We couldn't agree more! Congratulations and thank you, Gaby, for being excellent every day for your patients! Is there a Silver Cross Nursing Assistant you'd like to recognize for the BEE Award? Nominate them here: https://bit.ly/schBEEaward #SilverCrossHospital #SilverCrossProud #BEEaward #CNA #BeingExcellentEveryDay #CertifiedNursingAssistant #ThankYou #Congratulations #FeelGreatFriday
