"When I was 14, my younger brother was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. It was a huge shock to our family, and I remember feeling scared and upset about the news. Once I saw how insulin/an insulin pump and routine medical care could provide him with a relatively normal life, I was hopeful but also intrigued! I knew at that time that I wanted to be involved in healthcare and help other families just like mine. Anyone looking to become an APP should study hard, be curious about the human body, and learn to be a good listener. Providing excellent healthcare often begins with establishing trusting relationships with patients, so practicing empathy and effective communication is important.
