About us
SJCS is different from other agencies. We decided in the 1990s to tear down the walls and provide services for people with disabilities where they can learn and grow the best–right in their own communities. Our person-centered supports meets the unique needs of each individual who comes through our doors, helping them to achieve all of their goals and dreams. We are committed to self-direction, full citizenship, advocacy and equal rights for people living with disabilities and individuals and families experiencing homelessness. SJCS has driven social change for more than 150 years through the development of litigation, legislation, training, technical assistance as well as through direct services. Based in Washington, D.C., SJCS provides support and services to vulnerable people in New York, Virginia, D.C., Tennessee and Delaware.

We're thrilled to announce Dwayne Webb, our State Director for Tennessee, recently joined the ANCOR Board of Representatives in Tennessee! Dwayne shared his thoughts on this achievement, saying "I am honored and proud to represent ANCOR as a Board of Representatives Member for the State of Tennessee. ANCOR has and continues to shape public policy and bring forth solutions to strengthen the work of community-based providers in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. I am excited to see the impact ANCOR and St. John’s Community Services will have on advancing inclusive communities where every person, regardless of circumstances, has the right and opportunity to live their best life." Please join us on celebrating this moment!
