Out of 700 startup applicants, we were honored to be selected among the top 40 and then advanced to the top 8 companies, presenting on the centre stage during the Pitch competition. 🏆 Throughout my visit, I was inspired by the vibrant cultural connection between Italy and Brazil, a bond that felt as warm and familiar as home. I am honored to be featured in Sifted’s discussion on climate adaptation technology, particularly within the same weekly edition that shines a spotlight on Stefano Buono, a figure I deeply admire and consider a rare role model for entrepreneurs both in Italy and globally. The acknowledgment of capital raising challenges faced by someone of Stefano’s stature is both humbling and inspiring. His efforts with newcleo stand as a remarkable source of motivation, underscoring that meeting the multi-billion-dollar capital requirements for an initiative as ambitious as newcleo’s is feasible only with leadership of Stefano’s caliber. Shifting focus to the more immediate, albeit multi-million-dollar capital needs of adaptation tech companies (and please pardon the slight cheekiness), I value the candid insights provided by Burhan Pisavadi from PT1 on the challenges of securing venture backing for high-tech adaptation solutions where significant collaboration with the public sector is often crucial, and that the paths to commercialization can be extended. Nonetheless, it is important to underscore the less-obvious yet viable go-to-market strategies within adaptation tech that reveal considerable interest from the private sector and the potential for meaningful growth. For instance, within the Firetech vertical, the electric utility sector embodies a rapidly evolving landscape where organizations are allocating significant investments towards mitigation technologies. Although adaptation tech may not always enjoy the limelight associated with other segments of climate technology, its capacity to effect meaningful change is profound. The initiatives we are advancing at SLY, in conjunction with efforts across the wider community, highlight the diverse ways technology can be harnessed to forge more resilient systems while navigating complexities. A couple of weeks ago I was at the Techarenan, one of the highlights for me is the pitch sessions. Whether you're an entrepreneur, an investor, or into communications like myself, there's something truly exhilarating about being part of the audience. I witnessed a really great pitch that stuck with me – Kseniya Lenarciak, CFA, MBA was the embodiment of precision and clarity as she introduced SLY , an innovative wildfire detection system. Standing confidently before the jury, Kseniya showcased the art of communication – her message was not just heard, but felt. It was evident she had rehearsed meticulously; every word she spoke resonated with the assurance of thorough knowledge. She new the market, the problems the world is facing, the solution and the KPIs of the business. The real testament to her preparation came when bombarded with a volley of four questions by the first juror. With a composed smile, she responded, "Great questions, I will address them one by one..." And that she did, with such poise and detailed answers that it was clear she didn't just know her stuff – she mastered it. It's a joy to witness well-prepared and knowledgeable individuals on the pitch stage. It truly is an art form – one that Kseniya has undoubtedly mastered. And that's the magic of Tech conferences – the chance to witness the incredible pool of talent our world has to offer. The ideas that flow on that stage are not just thoughts; they are potential realities that could shape our future. It's not just about the business side of things; it's about supporting and empowering the individuals who stand up there, sharing their vision with the world. For startups ready to make their mark, remember, the cornerstone of a compelling pitch lies in: ·     Clarity of message – know the essence of what you're offering. ·     Understanding your audience – speak their language and address their needs. ·     Confidence in delivery – believe in your product, and others will too. ·     Ability to engage – invite questions and be ready for them.
