About us
Soccer Without Borders’ mission is to use soccer as a vehicle for positive change. In the USA, we provide newcomer refugee, asylee, and immigrant youth with a toolkit to overcome obstacles to growth, inclusion and personal success. Internationally, our programs engage under-served communities. What We Do: We provide team-based programming to youth who are traditionally excluded from sports-based and extracurricular activities. Our activity framework provides participants with an avenue for positive engagement, a platform for personal growth, and a toolkit for a brighter future. That framework includes: soccer play and instruction, team-building, civic engagement, off-field education, and cultural exchange. Through these activities and with the support of caring coaches and mentors in a close-knit team environment, youth gain access to the skills and networks they need to reach their potential. During our recent trip to Nairobi, Fahaby Kitimbo and I had an opportunity to visit M.A.D. Sisters, a new SWB partner we've gotten to know through the Equal Play Effect Africa project supported by the #GIZ. Founded in 2016 this team of 8 incredible 'sisters' has been supporting 1000 fellow girls and women in the vibrant #Kibera community through education, football, and entrepreneurship support. . In just a few hours together, it was clear that this group is truly Making a Difference (M.A.D.) in Kibera, and I'm looking forward to finding new ways to continue our partnership through sports-based youth development and gender equality. . A huge shoutout to Val, Belinda and the team for welcoming us into their space for an entire afternoon.
