Youth programs such as #4H have been credited with helping participants to build and develop skills that serve them throughout their lives. Youth learn public speaking, life skills, responsibility, good citizenship and how to lead. A long-ago episode of Hidden Brain that featured a professor of psychology who credited his experience at 4-H for instilling the lessons that helped him to “cultivate his purpose”, a conversation with my coast guard officer sister-in-law, another 4-H participant, both helped to make the case as our team at Sol Systems developed our #impact strategy, emphasizing support for 4-H programs as a key pillar in all communities where our solar projects are built. I am so excited to finally kick off this impact collaboration with NC Cooperative Extension for Stokes County, NC 4-H and to elevate their stories whenever possible. Last week at #ClimateWeekNYC, Sol Systems’ Senior Director of Community Impact Adaora Ifebigh joined nearly 100 advocates, corporate energy buyers, and others to discuss how we can use corporate energy procurement to accelerate an inclusive energy transition. With more than 15 terrawatts of new clean energy coming online across the world by 2050, it’s essential that we seize the opportunity to ensure the energy transition provides reliable, affordable electricity for all, creates economic opportunities for communities facing the greatest challenges, and protects local ecosystems. Sol Systems’ Infrastructure + Impact approach strives to ensure communities can benefit from a more inclusive energy infrastructure by amplifying existing community-led programs. We focus on land stewardship and clean energy, job training programs, and economic development to help ensure no one is left behind in the energy transition.  Thank you to Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), Google, and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for collaborating on this event.
